[Relz] Morning Glory Madness (Modders' Resource)

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 4:44 am

Announcing the release of the modder's resource: Morning Glory Madness.

As the name suggests, Morning Glory Madness adds an insane number of Morning Glory varieties and species to an easy to use .esp as a modders' resource. Simply merge the .esp with your mod and use the ones you like. Delete the rest. Easy as pie. And we like pie.

Includes:

17 color variations of Morning Glory (based on real life varieties) that are identified as "Morning Glory" and drop Morning Glory Root Pulp.

5 color variations of the new species "Star Merremia", which drops Merremia Root Pulp, an ingredient similar to Morning Glory Root Pulp.

A unique merremia "Azura's Star", which drops Azura's Star Petals, a restorative ingredient.

A unique merremia "Moonlight Merremia", which drops Merremia Seeds, an ingredient useful in making poisons – and avoiding your enemies.

This mod does NOT place any plants in-world. If you're not adding the plants yourself, the mod is useless.

Morning Glory Madness

Version: 1.0
Date: 2/16/2011
Category: Modders' Resource
Requirements: Oblivion Patch 1.2.0.416
Author: GothGirl Danielle
Source: http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/774-morning-glory-madness/

Description
===========

This modder's resource adds 24 new Morning Glory varieties as modders' resource.

Location
========

This is a modder's resource. No new plants are add in-world.

Details
=======

This mod adds an .esp that can be merged with a modder's current project. The .esp has been cleaned with TES4edit. The plant names in the .esp, the resource names and the file structure all match, so finding the resources you need and deleting the rest should be simple.

Use what you want and delete the rest.

WARNING!! This mod relies upon a single normal file for each type or group of textures. The normal file is designated by the _n.dds suffix. DO NOT DELETE THE NORMAL FILE UNLESS YOU ARE DELETING THE ENTIRE GROUP! If you're using only one texture from the group (example: the GGDMorningGlory_white.dds, but not the red or pink, you can delete the "color" texture files, but keep the GGDMorningGlory_n.dds).

To Install
=======

1. Extract the files to a temporary location.
2. Examine the folder structure and make corrections where necessary.
3. Copy files to (install folder)\Oblivion\Data\
4. Start TES Construction Set and place a checkmark beside the Oblivion .esm, the Morning Glory Madness.esp, and your mod's .esp.
5. Load the .esps and save again as a new .esp.
6. Use the plants you want. Delete the rest. Easy, eh?

Uninstall
=========

Why would you want to uninstall it?!!

Okay, if you decide these plants aren't for you, why, uninstalling couldn't be easier!

1. Go to Oblivion\Data\ and delete the Morning Glory Madness.esp
2. Delete the Oblivion\Data\Meshes\GGD\Morning Glory Madness directory. Since this is my first mod, you can even just delete the GGD directory.
3. Delete the Oblivion\Data\Textures\GGD\Morning Glory Madness directory. Since this is my first mod, you can even just delete the GGD directory.

All done!

Overwriting
===========

This mod overwrites no existing Oblivion resources. It only adds resources that modders can add to their mods.

Incompatibility
===============

Since this mod adds no resources in-world, and doesn't overwrite anything, incompatibility shouldn't be a problem. If it is, then you've been sneaking into my apartment at night.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================

Absolutely none. This mod has been thoroughly tested to ensure pathing is correct and the .esp has been cleaned with

TES4edit.

History
=======

1.0, 2011/02/16 - Initial release.

Contact
=======

You want to contact me? Why? No.

Okay, fine, I hang out at TES Alliance under the name “GothGirlDanielle”. Right, big surprise. PM me there or on the Bethesda Softworks Oblivion Mods forum, where I use the same name. TES Alliance works best though.

Credits
=======

Special acknowledgement and thanks go the wonderful group of people who regularly hang out at TES Alliance, answering questions and giving encouragement, even when my questions are, oh, kinda silly. There's a reason why this mod is only available on the TES Alliance website. The Alliance is a sincere effort by like-minded artists to improve and sustain the Oblivion modding community. Support that effort. NOW! (Okay, fine, you can go to the bathroom first.)

Thanks to Bethesda for creating Oblivion and taking away three years of my life. WooHaa.

Thanks to LHammonds for the Readme Generator this file was based on. Seriously. But he made me say that.

Tools Used
==========

7-Zip
Oblivion Mod Manager
Photoshop (Adobe CS5)
TES4Edit
TES Construction Set
Wrye Bash
LHammond's Readme Generator

And probably some others I forgot.

Licensing/Legal
===============

I made this resource for people to use. So use it. Freely and happily, I hope.

Of course, quite a lot of time and effort and education and (hopefully) skill went into the preparation of this mod, as well as any mod you download. Regardless of what you think of the mod, all that time and education and effort and skill are now going to your benefit.

That said, I like to think you're smart enough - and nice enough - to know what to do. But if you are the kind of person who uses people's stuff and then doesn't give them credit, do I really think some idle legal threat at the bottom of an electronic ReadMe is gonna bring about a sudden change of heart? Probably not.

But if I catch you . . . I have a really intimidating glare.

Enjoy and be safe.

Variety is always good. I like variety. I always try to provide variety whenever practical.

Not that I am likely to make a mod that will use this, but I may *use* a mod that uses this, and so, in advance of this possible event, I say thankyou. :)

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.

@ Vacuity. Love your mods. I think I've said that before, but it doesn't hurt saying it again. :)

And yes, I understand this mod has limited appeal - it's not an uber anime sword or a super-cool set of death armor. (Nothing wrong with those things, either. :) ) It's just one of those normal everyday things that show up in-game in a single variety - okay two, blue and purple.

I began making these, with some encouragement and help from people like StarX, because I needed something different for my Ronin mod. I liked the result, did some research, turned on Photoshop and went crazy. Hence the name ...

But it wasn't laziness that prevented me from putting these in game; it was practicality. There is currently no square inch of Cyrodiil that hasn't been changed by a mod: Better Cities, Open Cities, Better Open Cities, Unique Landscapes, oh, about a 1000 house mods ... you get the idea. Had I released an .esp with these in-game, even a dependent .esp that wouldn't effect the 255 limit in your load order, then I'd be spending the next six months changing it every time one of those mods make changes.

So I released it as an easy to use modders .esp. The best use of this mod would be with large projects that overhaul large areas of Cyrodiil (hint, hint). Then the resource simply becomes part of the mod and there's only one esp and any necessary placement and changes can be made at the discretion of those are making the mod.

I've considered the idea of adding some around shrines and other "stationary" references, and adding an in-game resource guide (yeah, a book). Again, I run into the .esp problem (who wants to tie up one of their 255 esps with a silly flower mod). On closer inspection, I see that Unique Landscapes even moves shrines and many "stationary" references so ... yeah.

Botanical Information:

In case you're interested, here's some botanical info on the plants.

Morning Glory. The new morning glory varieties will probably grow wherever morning glories grow ... so Bruma's out of the question. :) All that snow. However, only the veriegated varies are truly wild. The other morning glory varieties are domesticated and are probably more appropriately placed in towns, villages, and around homes and houses - in other words, planted by people.

Merremia. Merremia are based on the Hawaian varieties of Merremia. Backstory is they were developed by a Bosmer Botanist back in the Second Century (and why is it Cyrodiil has a gazillion alchemists but the only botanist is a drunk guy that hangs out at the bottom of the West Weald Inn? Maybe he's lacking in professional companionship ... anyhoo ...)

Merremia can be grown anywhere there is someone to care for them (again, cities, villages, homes) but only grow wild where there is lots of heat and water. Black Marsh and the areas around Leyawiin are perfect locations for wild plant placement. Just think hot and humid.

Thanks again for the comments. That's probably more than you wanted to know. :)

Reading's never hurt me (much). and I'm not scared of learning things (with some exceptions), so thanks for sharing the extra info.

Now I wonder if you're going to do the same for the other plant varieties in-game and turn out a resource with hundreds of plants. That's what I'd be likely to do if I were in your shoes right now...

How very perceptive!

I'm currently working on an idea to add Zinnia's to the game. I mean, everyone loves Zinnia's, right? Even guys like Zinnias.

But before that gets released, there are three more resources planned:

Fantastic Flora: Adds about 20 varieties of different flora. Some new flax, another variety of Nightshade or two, and so on. Nothing as wildly extensive as Morning Glory Madness, but c'mon, morning glory is a weed.

Sumptuous Shrubs: I am soooo tired of seeing the same purple flowering shrub. Again, probably not as huge as MGM and will be limited by the fact that changing texture placement on one flower changes the entire plant .... egggh .... so maybe three or four.

And finally ....

SHRROOOOMS! (What was Earthor doing in that cave ...)

The name says it all.

Bruma's out of the question. All that snow.

It's too bad there are no seasons in Oblivion. It'd be darn cool to see Morning Glories flourish during the summer months and die back during colder months.

Morning Glories are my favorite plant in real life. I've always thought they were breathtakingly beautiful. Unlike so many other colorful plants (Azaleas, for example) Morning Glories refuse to stay put. They're like children. They climb all over objects and even other plants in their exuberant zeal to attract attention. I absolutely love that about them.

Anyway, thanks a lot for this resource. I plan to add a few of these to my own game. And like Vacuity I look forward to seeing what real modders do with this.
