I've never got the point on being guild leader, I mean, I can't see any guild willing to give the control some new guy, when there are (or should be) docens of members being there for years and with their own wishes and ambitions.
However, if that's the way they do (again), this could be cool:
- Dark Brotherhood: as said before, MORE ASSASSINATIONS. And please, give the option to either send some guildies to do it OR do it ourselves. And I I definitelly DO want randomly spawned NPCs that never existed before if that's the only way to get it; after all, if killing a trader means that his son/daughter/wife/cousin Bob gets the shop, I could well kill the count of any village and gladly see his nephew succeeding the castle.
- Fighter's Guild: missions, and either to option to do it ourselves or command any guildie to do it (or even pass) These missions should be "public", I mean, villagers should ask for help, and so the guild will respond.
- Thieves Guild: we should be able to organize some jobs with our guildies, command them to do it, or even better, something similar to BG2, decide what should the guild do (smuggle, muggings or sneakiy thefts), and even being able to invest in improvements and trainings for our guildies. In fact, these cold well be able in every faction.
- Mages Guild: this is somewhat complicate, since I see mages in TES with a "politician" feeling; that said, being the Archimage should give you something to do with the local policy. In addition, there should be some kind of investigation related to the guild, to magic itself or (at least) some spells. Mages are supossed to be erudites, the DO study and investigate to create, modify or improve spells, enchants, potions, etc... We should be able to command investigations to our guildies, at least.
And so on... To sum up, leading a guild/faction should have any mean, should have any sense, and should give us something to do with it.
