I had a suggestion to make about Skyrim's dragon

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:12 pm

I'd rather it be text than have voice acting at all. Leads to more fleshing out and no money used on VA at all. Besides I only listen to it once then skip when I've heard it before.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. VA is nice, but it's mostly fluff. Good VA for combat and such is certainly needed but for standard dailogue I prefer to read.

But I don't know if I want the dragon to sound like Sean Connery, or not?

I know I don't. Not that he's bad, but I don't want to be thinking "hey, that's Sean Connery" when I'm supposed to be in Tamriel. Patrick Stewart was bad enough.

I would rather have them create a computer modified voice for the dragons that doesn't sound human, but instead ominous and otherworldly

As noted in one of the sound videos, it's very difficult to modify someone's voice on a computer and not make it sound like it's been modified on a computer. In a setting like Fallout, it's not so bad because computers and electronics exist in that world. But in TES, having a voice that sounds computerized or filtered would not fit the setting.

I was watching a video that GameInformer had on there site. In one of the videos I saw that Mark Lampert, the audio director and sound designer, was talking about coming up with a dragons voice for the game Elder scrolls Skyrim. He was saying how he is thinking about using a voice actor with a deep and rough voice to play the dragons voice. Although I think that that is a good choice. I also think it is a very typical voice for a dragon. When I think of a dragon I think of a smart, wise, powerful dragon. With this being said I think that the dragon should have a wise but still powerful voice. Such as the dragon off of the television show Merlin that shows on syfi. So what do you guys think of this. Like or dislike???

By the way the guy that plays the voice of the dragon in merlin is John Hurt and here is a video of merlin where you can hear his voice

I have no idea what that link was... but it was just [censored] awful. I need a flamethrower and the names and addresses of everyone who had anything to do with that. Time to clean the world of a great and terrible evil. If they did unique VAs on anything I would say do it on dragons. I can survive with all of Race X's males sounding the same.

Dragons are huge creatures. You need to feel threatened by them.
Hence the huge creature part?

I like John Hurt, but I don't think he makes a very convincing dragon. I'm not really sure that anybody would, though.

Dragons in this game are also evil so they should sound more gravelly and dark. Not like a wizard.

Three words: Sean Connery Impersonator.

Bad Idea: In the Star Wars: Force Unleashed games, they used a Darth Vadar impersonator, and while at times he sounded great, the delivery and 'acting' were terrible and it was very disappointing.

I'm going for Ian McShane at the moment, I enjoyed his work as the villian in Kung Fu Panda (?).

@Unfriendly - you would insult Sean Connery if you didn't try to kill him.

I like your play on my username lol

what about the guy who did the parrot from aladin

I would have no hesitation killing dragons if that was their voice. In fact, I wouldn't be able to kill them fast enough. :flamethrower:
