Weapons, and their materials..

Something that i didn't like in oblivion was the game kinda forcing me to get a "stronger" material weapon to be able to hurt high level enemies. If i like the fine steel war-hammer more than the ebony one then let me use it without making it impossible to damage my opponents. What I'm suggesting is how about making the materials more versatile. For example Iron average weight, low critical chance, low/average damage and durability, prone to rust, weakening the weapon, but rust has a chance to poison your enemies, weakening them. Steel average weight, average damage/durability, less likely to rust, average critical chance. Silver average weight, average damage, low/average durability, low critical chance, immune to rust, but bonus damage to "unholy" creatures. Elven light/average weight, high critical chance, low rust chance, average damage/durability. Dwemer average/heavy weight, low critical chance, prone to rust, average/high damage/durability. Orckish heavy weight, average/high damage/durability, average critical chance, less likely to rust. Glass light weight, low durability, high damage, high critical chance, no rust. Ebony heavy weight, high damage/durability, low/average critical chance, rust(?) Daedric extremely heavy weight, high damage/durability, high critical chance, rust(?) damage unholy creatures. what do you guys think bout my ideas on weapon materials? EDIT: i think that this would make weapons more balanced, imo...

Wouldn't be bad, I'd love to see more importance in material; than just this is stronger than that.

Yep, i recently started playing oblivion again and it bothered me that i didn't even got to use my fine steel hammer all thanks to level scaling! :brokencomputer: I mean do i really need to switch to a better material weapon every time i level up?

I agree, I wish I could keep my Steel Longsword in Oblivion at higher levels, without having to switch to the ugly (imo) Daedric Longsword.

And I like your stats for the most part, but shouldn't Dwemer weapons be immune to rust? And for that matter, how would rust actually be implemented/what would the effects of it be?

the same should go for armor also i hate that i have to switch to different/ugly things because my nice little setup is no longer effective. maybe another simpler way to fix it would be to have a much lower base dammage and depend more on skills/perks for the overall dammage

I dislike the concept of rust, I think any rust on a weapon or armor would be fixed through general repairs and not be nearly as frequent as damage from battles. It just seems like an unneeded extra mechanic. But actually using a different armor set based on your playstyle, not just because it is automatically X% better is much better than Oblivion's method (like I said, upgrade because it is just X% better than what you have) and Fable II (everything just for show, otherwise known as worthless).

Hmm. I could have sworn that I had read something about Dwemer weapons not rusting. I just searched UESP, couldn't find anything. I guess I was mistaken.
