BYFFI

What is BYFFI?
-The "art" of hand optimizing meshes with blender with the help of the Python File Format Interface (PYFFI) by amorilia.

Someone insisted I start this thread, so compile your complaints/thoughts here bla bla

At the very basic, they are simply optimized by deleting deplicate verticies, welding verts etc.

At the extreme, they are a product of thought(thinking), implementing these thoughts into a real world-useable mesh.
(More on this...WIPz thread)

What are these BYFFI'd meshes?
The best of the best (that's the idea anyway)

Hand-Optimised meshes, better than what you already probably have.... (Probably)
MODELING PROGRAMS & UTILITIES

http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

last but not least Autodesk 3DMax. (they can provide they're own link, they got enough of my money)

How to BYFFI meshes
1. At the very basic import a mesh into blender and delete the duplicate verticies.
Note: This does not work for all simple meshes and can screw up the end result!!

2. If two or more collision face(s) can be made into one (1) collision face... WOW GREAT.
(the less collision faces the better)

3. If you do not have patience... STOP HERE.
(patience is a virtue. some say.)

4. think further (yes, think!)

5. to be continued.. Collision properties, Vertex coloring, etc
(working on it.............)

I'm kind of lazy on updating threads so if this post isn't current, maybe someone has done it for me...haha
i hate formating..... WIPz this is a pain for me..hahah

Thanks for the preview release and thread! Been following this since mention of ByFFi first appeared in the RAEVWD thread. Looks to have to potential to be a solid performance improver. I've downloaded the preview and will install it prior to my next play-session. My avatar is parked in his Weye Manor abode (AFK_Weye) and needs to visit IC, so can check out the results pronto. I'm not gonna run any FPS measuring tests, but will just see if I notice any difference in smoothness. Not that I expect much at this early stage with so few meshes optimized, but every little bit helps.

Just one small suggestion I have would be to use meshes from the UOP and RAEVWD when available. That way, any fixes incorporated into those two mods would make their way into the optimized meshes.

Added WIPz BYFFI list (2nd post)
It is a WIPz

It is an table of all the default meshes also, only some BYFFI records so far...

Comments-suggestions for column names?

If I try these out, is texture usage the only indicator to look for comapred to pyffied ones?

Of the few modified files so far that you get in the preview download the only thing modified, is meshes. There might be one mesh that don't look the same totally, yet.

Textures should look just as normal. -minus temp that one.
