High level armor for stealth characters?

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:32 am

One thing I didn't like about oblivion, was that everything besides the Leather armor (with the green robe hood for added effect) and the Shrouded armor, looked totally unlikely that a stealthy character would wear it for stealthing.

"Oh? You want to be sneaky? How about this suit made of glass? Or maybe this suit made of bright gold metal?"

Get were this is going? I want at least one suit of armor that is viable for stealth characters at endgame.

I agree. The highest Light Armour in Oblivion would only be stealthy against... blind people? Although, I swear I read somewhere we could customize our armour in Skyrim, so I guess this won't be a problem.

Although it would be nice to see some high-level armor for the sneaking types, I think part of the experience with these type of characters is learning how not to get hit. Almost seems counter-intuitive in some ways to have really effective armor. But you can't deny better armor to someone who puts a lot of time and effort into someone building a stealth character, so I can see it both ways.

... or you could try not wearing armor?

In Oblivion, armor slows you down (even light armor), reduces the amount of loot you can carry and does not give much in terms of protection. At least not unless it is highend armor and your character has a high Light Armor skill. And if you use magic, it reduces the efficiency of your spells just as much as heavy armor. Hopefully Skyrim will include some re-balancing of armor. (sorry about the rant)

I expect most of the armors to be similar to those in Oblivion (and Morrowind). But this is Skyrim. One would expect all sorts of bear hide armor ... or even the fantasy classic Dragon Scale Armor?

For me, its a matter of how cool it looks. I don't want to sneak around in a dress robe or some brightly colored shirt with matching pants.

You do not have to sneak around in a robe/dress to use clothing. Aside for the high-class stuff, most of the clothes in Oblivion weren't all that bright. For a stealth character you could go for a pair of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-npc-Vlanarus_Kvinchal.jpg or a pair of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-npc-Malintus_Ancrus.jpg. As a shirt, you could go with a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-npc-Shady_Sam.jpg. Having said that, I agree that the leather and fur greaves are much better looking than most of the pants, and there still is a boots situation.
