Crit, Armor Penetration, or More Crits?

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:25 am

So guys, which weapon type/weapon perk will you go with? I think I'm going to go with axes because I like the idea of damage over time and a guy bleeding while I'm continue to bash him with my axe. :)

Also, I wonder if it would be a good idea to choose all 3 perks on a single character, or if you even can?

Edit: Sorry! I meant to put bleeds in the title... not more crits.

Skyrim definitely has enough "crits," especially in the graphics department. :hubbahubba:

You probably will be able to, but will only make sense if you like to switch weapons up.

id like the idea of bleeding if more games implemented it well. most times the DoT of bleeds lose out to just straight out dmg/hit. maybe if the bleed stacked. in any case, ill use the axe for rp purposes and not so much optimizing dmg

I'll chose whatever weapon type suits my role best, not the one that'd be most effective; unless that is my role: Looking for the most effective weapon.

Doubt I'd enjoy such a role, though. I'll probably go with two-handed axes that look somewhat like poleaxes. Won't get closer to spears, I guess, and my character'll likely be a professional fighter. Or I create a social character, who'll have, if any, only light weapons. At first cheap ones like axes and clubs/staves, later a one handed sword.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a total noob( ah what the heck, I'll just ask anyway) what do you mean by crits? I immediately thought Critical Hits, but I'm not sure, never seen that abbreviation before. again, I apologize for my noob-ness

For stealth and mages crits are the best.

For fighters the bleeding or armor penetration sounds more effective; duel wielding mace & axe should rock house.

To be honest, I hope there is a Dagger crit.

I believe there is, supposively it's under the stealth perks.

They are working on how high it should crit, I'm very excited about it. Bound Dagger FTW!

Am I misinformed, or there were going to be one and two handed skills only! So why are we having this sword/axe/blunt pull. And the critical perks are most probalby going to be in the stealth branch for daggers?

You specialize under each skill.

Blade perks give better criticals
Blunt gives armor penetration(ignores armor, doesn't really penetrate)
Axe gives bleeding damage.

You can always get all perks under one or two handed, but that would be a waste.

One thing I hope Bethesda does right is makes an equal amount of swords, maces, and axes, because in Oblivion it seemed like swords were always the most common and best weapons, and I think maces would be sweet for armor penetration, you can dish out a ton of damage even to heavily armored foes, it'd be cool to just destroy a heavily armored plate wearing guard with a huge mace LOL.

What?

Means Skyrim has good graphics. It depends on what I am playing. I don't do an RP character until I have done the MQ and all the guilds so I'll worry about tailoring it to a role when I get there. I'll probably go classic sword and shield (with bow for some minor ranged stuff) for the MQ, and perk into whatever seems good for that build.

In my opinion every weapon that cuts should have a varying degree of proportional bleed over time damage (what, axes cut but swords and arrows don't?). I'd probably have to go for swords though, just because I love them. :toughninja:

Since you can only get 50 perks out of the 280 total wouldn't it be a little risky or wasteful to put effort into more than one melee weapon type? I doubt you just grab an 'Ignore armor" perk. Those weapon based perks probably have multiple levels. For the mace maybe it only ignores 20% of the enemies armor at first, and you have to keep leveling the perk to get the full ignore armor effect. I think that is likely how it will be done. If that is the case you could end up using like 4 or 5 perks in the one area, so multiple weapon specialties would take alot from other areas. I guess it's not a bad idea if you really intend to be a pure melee weapons user, though it would still take up alot of resources.

There will likely be more than just the three, but since we're probably just talking confirmed stuff, I'm torn between sword and axe, especially now that we can dual wield.

I'll probably do an Axe/Axe build if the bleed effect stacks, if not, Axe/Shortsword.

Is the mace perk used for all blunt weapons like hammers? There should be a hammer perk. Perk title "Hammer Time"!
