In My Time Of Dying

how do you know how dying is like?

Exactly what I was thinking of

But regardless, I don't really care too much how it looks when my character dies too much, unless enemies get finishing moves too in which case it might be nice to see it at times, otherwise, though as long as whatever happens when I die isn't unnecessarily drawn out and gets to the point, it's fine. Past games were fine. You die, fall down, the game asks you if you want to reload or not, and that works good enough for me.

It should play some old retro music and GAME OVER stars flashing on the screen with the option to insert coin to continue(load previous game) or quit to main menu

I like the 3rd person death concept that there's always been, however, would be great to have a longer scene, say you get to watch your body lying there, maybe being looted by bandits, and only when you click a specific button does the reload save option appear. It was annoying in morrowind/oblivion, where the game would pause and the reload menu show up, sometimes even before your body hit the ground. You need some time to reflect upon what happened rather than simply reloading, it sort of trivializes death when it all happens so fast.

That's a good idea, the bandits should loot you're body. I would like to see that if I was playing 3rd person and i died, but not if i was playing 1st person, I would like the screen to go blank.

sorry, no kudos for me. This is a reference to a Led Zeppelin song.

Pretty sure that earns you more kudos.

Anyway, I rarely die in Oblivion, but I had no issues with the kill camera. I suppose 1st person is more realistic than 3rd, so i'd probably prefer that.
The inital idea of yours is pretty sweet actually, i'd like it to fade out (as long as it doesn't take too long).

Maybe pressing start could skip it or whatever.
Can't say i'm too bothered about this animation though, however I guess someone has to think about it :frog:

Death should be horrible. It should also be a meaningful event. We all wanna get on with the game but death should have a lasting impact on the player. Death in Oblivion seemed rather uneventful, I sometimes hardly cared when I died. I know this is leaning more towards consequences then actual animations but I think they go hand in hand to deliver a more realistic, believable experience.

I think the rolling head after a decapitation is an amazing idea, slow mo fatality cut scene (ala Age of Conan) then all you see is ground-sky-ground-sky as your dome bounces like a basketball down the street...You can do a lot with 6 seconds and it isnt so time consuming that it becomes annoying.

3rd person rag doll deaths are a bit weak... I agree to spicing up death a bit.

Maybe a short 'dying cut scene' would be boring after a couple of times, but as long as it is skip-able, I would like it.
Would be cool if maybe there was something like the short funeral clip from Daggerfall when you die, but have a different one for each race, as Nords and Argonians probably don't have the same funeral culture.

I'd rather just die and quickly reload. Continually showing me a cutscene or telling me how terrible I am will get old eventually.

This. I don't care one whit what the game does, once I know I'm toast all I care is how fast I can reload and get back to it.

I dont know if you meant this with the cutscene but when you die maybe the enemy could do some simple finishing move on you.

- ie. a bandit knocks you on your back and then strikes a hammer to your chest and the screen goes instantly black. But maybe if your on 3rd person it wouldnt go instanly black and you′d see the bandit looting you and stuff

It would be fast and cool looking!
