I don't think it will be too in depth.

It won't, but there will be great depth in the game. I don't mean depth like "Wife, do you need any milk before I go out to slay Alduin?" I mean depth as in "I'll chop me some wood and use the coins to buy me a new sword." depth.

Spare time? What Spare time?

I plan on killing goblins and hoarding phat l00t.

If I have spare time, the game developers aren't doing something right.

TES games aren't only about killing things and getting loot. If you want that go play Diablo

Yea, the game will be full of depth. Woodcutting will just add to it, which I greatly welcome.

agreed with no minigames aspect but you should have to equipped specific things to mine and wood cut, you should need a pickax to mine veins beating it with a sword would be useless, and a wood ax for woodcutting, shouldn't be instantaneous either should take a little bit to mine things

the "minigame" i'd really want to see in skyrim would be....a good old fashioned tavern brawl, a npc insults someone (or you do it yourself) they break into a fight and it soon escalates into a bar brawl where everyone in the tavern starts fighting each other (except kids and old women or maids, they hide or get out of the tavern)
the fighting only depletes stamina, once depleted the character will pass out.

objective: be the last one standing
reward: minor fame gain among the villagers

BEST. IDEA. EVER! Devs need to read that dude

lol if woodcutting was for smithing then wouldn't it just be for nooby weapons, practise weapons and marksman.......
although come to think of it even a warhammer has a wodden haft...

Well that, and smiths do a lot of forging. Forging is done using fire. See where I'm going with this? ;)

I hope you need a horse and a winch line and youd have to drag the logs back to town to the lumberyard. and what the other chap said about cutting them down... no mini games!!!!!! Equip your axe and chop the tree down and make sure it doesnt fall on you..

Woodcutting?

No, I'll spend my free time in my forge crafting the finest weapons & armors and returning to my study and enfrusing them with the finest souls.

Then I'd hit the road, selling my wares to the merchants I come across, all the while buying and collecting the finest ingredients and books.

When I finish selling all my wares, I'll head home and enter my lab and make the finest potions.

Then I'll hit the road and sell my potions for the finest materials. Then the process repeats.

Woodcutting and hard labor? No, that's for laymen, oh I mean NPCs...

Woodcutting is probably about obtaining wood for smithing and less about making money.

This idea i like. so when you got your wood you can make arrows and bows or something like that maybe even crossbows. and then sell that to the merchants or smiths but then to make it more intresting they would have to add a woodcutter skill. And that skill level will decide the strenght of your weapons

I'd like to see a special axe for woodcutting. So I can't go in and chop some wood with my standard iron battle axe or lop off some heads with my special woodcutting axe.

Don't you need wood for fire? Fire is needed for smithing.

I wouldn't hate mini-games, but I'd rather do it real-time, if Bethesda can find a way to do it. I guess they'll just give the tree's you can chop down a "health-bar", whack it a few times, open the inventory, and take your logs.

You need either charcoal or coke. One is made of wood and the other can be made from either Lignite or bituminous coal, coal being preferable and... wait wait wrong game forum.

Edit- Can't believe I forgot MaGmA

I definitely like the idea of having several jobs available for making gold around town, but a guitar hero-like mini game really turns me off. Still, I see what you're getting at.

I think they should have some type of union or worker's guild. A guild that will basically never require you to fight, and a good way to role play a non fighting character, or even just a good way to start the game if you aren't used to combat yet to get better gear before being forced into a massive fight. Also it'd be cool if you had to swing a hatchet at a tree the way you would a weapon and cut it down realistically.
