I'm not super up to date on computers anymore, but I would say more ram wouldn't hurt. Hard drive is kind of small too if you've got a lot of music/movies.

Edit: Just read that it was a laptop, they are always worse than desktops for gaming.

I don't know of any game that would utilize more than 4 GB of RAM. I've never had it go over 2,5 GB, and that was already exceptional (STALKER CoP Complete mod). So 4 GB is fine I think.

It's a laptop.
That said, the video card it uses is an ok one...for a laptop. You should be able to play most current games, just do not expect to be able to play on High Settings. Low/Med is more likely, but as always, it depends on the game, and what resolution you're using. If a game has low frame rates, try lowering the resolution down from native.

Some people/benchmarks place the GTX-260M over the GTS-360M - I think one of the differences is that the card in your laptop is a 128-bit vs. 256bit DDR5 in the GTX-260M. But, stuff like that tends to go over my head so I'm not sure how much of a difference that really makes on performance.

Borderlands isn't that graphically intensive, btw. I originally played that on an ancient P4 desktop on fairly high settings.

Edit:typo's, typo's...

Older games, and when I mean older games. I mean things like Half Life 2 or Counter Strike, and probably not at any good settings.

Pretty standard/below average.

I have 1.5gb graphics card Nvidea 3D
i7 2.6ghz quad core proccesor
8gb ram
250 solid state harddrive + 650gb moving part hard drive.
Blu-ray
Can play 3D games and movies i just need to pop my glasses on
And i can only just play newer games on the highest quality.

(i dont want to seem like im boasting or bashing but your screen isn't that huge or good neither. I have a 1920.1024 HD 3D screen thats 18'')

------- i dont want to put you down but you've been ripped of; you should have done more research. My Sony Vaio laptop is cheaper and has almost twice the better hardware and is 3D enabled and Blu-Ray enabled. :(

i paid a grand for this :/ .. anyway i think its a little better than u guys are saying cas im playing all my games on the highest settings and the only one ive had a problem with is dead rising 2. the laptop get hot. but with a pad not extreamly hot.. also its a "desktop replacement" so its pretty good. its not small by any means and the only game ive had a problem with is dead rising.. which i think is more to do with the game cas a lot of other people have had the same problems.. im thinking of getting crysis.. i know ill be able to play it on the lower settings ( i played the cysis 2 demo on the highest settings with NO fps issues)

also i went the laptop rout cas im about to go to college and and figured a laptop would be better ...easier to move and stuff..though im going to have to order a case custom for it

The GeForce 360M is no slouch and would pull at least high settings in all the Elderscrolls/Fallout games out right now. Compared to a desktop card, the performance is rather close to the 9800GT. Processor is a decent dual-core chip too.

Your notebook could play pretty much anything right now. I'd expect high settings in several games although games like Crysis (first, not second one) and Metro 2033 would probably put the notebook in its place.

thats what i thought... i dont expect it to be able play crysis on the highest settings, probably medium , i dunoo i think it would play it so im thinking of getting it, and brink when it comes out... if fixed my problem with dead rising 2 by alt tabing then bringing up the task manager then going to process and setting priority to high,, im going to assum that will help with other games as well

I don't understand exactly the point of this thread.

Are you asking for advice for what you can do to improve the performance of your laptop?

Medium will certainly be achievable with Crysis, so if you're happy with that then by all means get it.

Probably just looking for opinions/advice on the notebook's hardware before going out to buy games.

Lap top?
Games?
Replaces desktop?

I will never, ever understand that.

Although ill suspect that you can play almost everything but Crysis 1 and Mtero 2033 maxed or near max.
I would never say it replaces a desktop, it might take the place of one but no laptop will ever be able to fully replace a desktop pc for gaming.

It looks to be good for a laptop, but $1,000 seems too much, I spent $1,600 on my desktop but about $300+ of that was fluff. Things like a G-500, and new KB a second HDD I didn't need, as well as more ram than I really needed and a 6 core AMD that I could have lived with out.

I would say you can safely play most/all games but you might not be able to max them all, heat and battery life may become a issue as it gets older.

battery life is already an issue.. actually i cant play games with the battery unplugged the computer just runs slowerer for some reason when its unpluged (even if i set it to high performance), and by desktop replacment, its basicly a desktop in laptop fourm.. im mean.. the thing weighs 15 pounds.... the screen is bigger than the one i play xbox on, but yea... it works pretty good

Voted for pretty good cause that's what is. You'll probably be able to play most games at good fps, obviously this depends wheter your playing soemthign Metro 2033 or Tetris, but I'm sure you can max out (no AA though) say ME2 with +40fps and that's a 2010 game
