Urgh, landscape problem...

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 1:18 am

I wish I knew how to solve this by myself...haha

Hey all, I've install some MODs recently but since then I've had an issue with the landscape. Basically, either it appears very gray & bland, or it looks as if it's overlapping with something. I wanted to do a printscreen but it wouldn't let me...

I have a few MODs that mess around with the graphics; QTP3Redimized, Enhanced Water, All Natural, Natural Environments, Unique Landscapes (+ Optimized Landscapes) and a Non-Tiling Texture mod. I don't see what the issue is as I've had all these MODs running at the same time before with no issues.

Any ideas? :)

Archive invalidation perhaps - use BSA Redirection? Installation order would have an impact? If Natural Environments is the one by Max Teal remove it to see if that is the problem.

How do I use this "BSA Redirection"? :)

I'm not sure about the installation order. I could have a mess around with it and see what's up...

Well, I had Natural Environments before and it worked perfectly, so I'd much rather leave that as a last resort...thanks for the suggestion though. :D

Are you installing with OBMM or BAIN?

If OBMM then click utilities, archive invalidation, make sure bsa redirection is checked, check the box update on exit, and apply now.

If BAIN on the installers tab right click the file header and check bsa redirection.

OBMM. :)

I did as instructed, but the ArchIveInvalidation.txt file disappeared from the main directory. I have a backup fortunately, but I'm under the impression it's not supposed to do that? :P

Do not use an archiveinvalidation.txt file. OBMM has its own archive invalidation which created and archiveinvalidatin.bsa file and puts it as the first basa to search in the oblivion.ini file, therby making it work without the txt file which is an atiquated process.

Read up on it in the OBMM help.

One of the MODs (no-tiling) said that I should edit the ArchiveInvalidation.txt file with some information that came with the MOD, which is the only thing I used that file for; I'm no longer using it since I did the BSA Redirection, but I still have the issue (forgot to mention that in previous post).

I've also removed the All Natural MOD, but no luck so far.

More info would be helpful, i.e. a load order and perhaps more details on the issue. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1164017-moded-oblivion-screenshot-thread-275/ for info on how to enable screenshots.

Wow! Looks like Cezanne. :turned: I'd guess a messed up install of Optimized Distant Land but no idea as I've never used it.

Some notes on the load order but nothing pertaining to your current issue. The load order seems odd overall - I'd recommend using BOSS.

OOO-Container_Trap_Instant_Effects.esp - No need for it so might as well skip it.

Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp - Should only be used if you notice it's necessary so skip.

Natural_Weather_HDR_by_Max_Tael.esp - Should you use both this and the one below?
Natural_Habitat_by_Max_Tael.esp
Natural_Vegetation_by_Max_Tael.esp
Natural_Water_by_Max_Tael.esp - Should you use both this and EW?
Natural_Weather_by_Max_Tael.esp
Enhanced Water v2.0 HD.esp

Living Economy.esp - Has some issues so Enhanced Economy is generally recommended over it. Requires OBSE though.
Living Economy - Items.esp

Harvest [Flora].esp - If using the version bundled with OOO, update to the standalone 301 release.
Harvest [Flora] - Shivering Isles.esp

xulSnowdale.esp - I know Snowdale needs an OOO patch so you might check for other xul patches you might need as well. Not using xul so not sure on details.

Rightyo, I'll have a look into the load order soon. I just installed what was in the MODs and said "Yes" to any patches/additional features I wanted. In regards to the water; I haven't encountered any issues and I thought I had read something before about them being compatible. :)

Could it be possible that the texture pack and optimized landscapes are conflicting with each other? It would be strange if they were...=/

You should get your issue fixed first of course, but besides that I'd recommend switching to All Natural for the weather. It's excellent in each and every way - but requires OBSE. You can keep Natural Habitat/Vegetation if you like them. And skip the NW Water - use EW only instead.

But I'm no help on your current issue so that's sort of off topic anyway.

Yeah, I'd planned on waiting. :)

Well, when I tried using All Natural it said I needed Wyre Bash, but when I installed that I had issues and couldn't be bothered messing around with it...I'd rather just get the landscape sorted and stick with what I got. I have OBSE already though. Okay, I'll remove NW Water. :)

BSA redirection cancels the need for archiveinvalidation.txt. Textures would not conflict as the latest one overwrites the earlier one.

Easiest fix is to uninstall the landscapes and LOD files, just leaving QTP3 as the base. If that looks good then add one by one and see where the problem starts. But make sure you use archive invalidation in OBMM! get rid of the archiveinvalidation.txt file.

The only changes made to the landscape should have been through QTP3; I haven't installed anything like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2182 . Unique Landscapes adds new areas to Oblivion, but I'm not sure if it adds new textures for distance land.

I had a look at the landscape and landscapelod folders, and I can't identify which files belong to Vanilla or MOD's (if any).

Just a small update on this;

I got bored for a bit so decided to wander around. Eventually I ended up at Bravil when it occurred to me that A) The landscape textures were fine around that area and B) They looked similar to the ones in those screen-shots. Is there a possibility the snow textures overlapped/replaced the grass ones? How would I go about fixing it if that were the case?

All vanilla files are in the vanilla bsa files. They are not in loose folders. So if a file is in a loose folder it was added by a mod.

In OBMM you can click on the omod and look at the files it has. Look for ones that are not blue as they have conflicts.

When dealing with textures install order is king. The latest install will overwrite all previous installed files. I have heard that OBMM is not always reliable to remove/replace overwritten filles when mod is uninstalled.

Only thing you can do really is remove all your texture mods and reinstall from the beginning, in the oorder you want whre the last mod installed has the files you want to use.

Hello again,

I did as you said, reinstalled from the beginning with the last mod installed being the Quarl's (used a omod this time), and I'm still getting the same issue with the landscapes. I downloaded BOSS so it could sort out the load order, and all of the mods I have activated are blue. =/
