Objective Wheel : What do the numbers refer to?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:03 am

Forgive me if this has already been asked and promptly answered but I have searched high and low for the definitive answer! Upon bringing up the objective wheel and the corresponding missions etc - what do the numbers in each sector refer to? There is a symbol similar to "yin-yang" and a number - some believe it is the amount of people doing that mission, some believe it is the "rank" of importance of each mission - however both of which I have disproved. Does a Dev have the answer?

Loving the game by the way despite its few flaws :)

Thanks in advance

Do you mean when your at a station and selecting what class you want to be, or selecting a objective to do?

How did you disprove these?

I was certain that it was the number of teammates assigned to that objective. You'll notice the numbers change when you hear your AI shout things like "Capturing a command post" or "Grabbing the key" or whatever.

The yinyang signifies a universal objective, nothing class specific.

When pulling up the missions wheel, the number indicates the number of people on your team who have chosen to perform the mission.
The symbol refers to the required class, the yin-yang meaning any class can perform the mission.
When pulling up the class selection wheel from a control point, the number indicates the number of people on your team who are currently playing that class so you can see what your team may be short on.

Because the numbers in the mission wheel go far beyond that of the players in your team - and can sometimes go much lower

I've never seen it higher than the number of people on the team, there may be a bug (perhaps when one player selects the mission, then selects it a second time). As for it sometimes showing fewer than the number of players, it could show less if one or more people on the team haven't selected a mission and are just doing whatever.

Number is specific to total number of players attempting a certain selected task. for example: Say you select find enemy command post. It will list the number of people trying to do the same task. Remember, it is often quicker and more effective to have more than one player attempting to do a task. Taking a command post goes faster with more than one person attempting the task.

I've just played a game as a medic and I selected Revive teammates as my mission - there were 3 other people Doing this mission - however there was myself and another teammate who was a medic - how does this work, if that is the case?

I'm not sure any checks are in place to prevent someone with the wrong class from selecting a particular mission. Escort people missions show as medic missions for example, but non-medics can still select it.

I think it's either bugged - or the numbers mean something else

Just an update - Played a game before and the primary objective had "11" in the box? Can any dev's confirm what the numbers in the mission wheel actually mean? Its causing me great distress!

It shows the number of players on the objective. That SHOULD mean how many of your teammates are doing the objective, but there is an exception. Defense objectives are available to both sides. When you're on the attacking team, but you're not the right class for the primary objective, you can take a "defend objective" mission - it's the same "defend objective" mission the entire enemy team will have as their primary.

Oops.

As for the times where the number adds to less than 8, that's easy to explain as well - class-specific side missions don't show on your objective wheel unless you're the right class for them - a Soldier can't see how many Medics are running the "revive friends" mission - and the Medic can't see how many Engineers are running off to build that MG nest.
