convert Oblivion to creation engine?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 8:59 am

If you fed every script, mesh, sound files, animations and textures from Oblivion into the Creation engine construction set.. would we get Oblivion running on the new engine? Just subdivide the meshes and use the uber high res texture packs available to make it look better. Could it be this simple? Iv'e never modded before...but seems like this may be possible.. Or am I waaaayy off?

Maybe, but it would probably break the EULA so it doesn't matter.

nah, not worth the effort for anyone. quests and the map wouldent work

what i would like though is if the creation engine could make MASSIVE WORLDS. so then cities can be the size of the ones in assasins creed....

then fix every aspect of the game up to the point where you could make a game out of one skill...

who would need life then?

subdividing doesnt necessarily make it look better, if you have a good topology than you can make it look good with very few verticies.

Physical content could theoretically be reused (nifs, textures, etc). However, a lot of the functions would not work. Most likely all scripts would break. Anything requiring substantially changed structure would break (that's conversation, combat, factions, and quests to name a few). It would not be a simple load in and add. Furthermore, as noted above it would break the EULA.

Indeed it would. It's not something that Bethesda would allow.

Well, it IS the creation engine. It's more in the spirit of things to create a new experience, rather than converting Oblivion to Skyrim's engine.

Now, I can't imagine Bethesda having a problem with someone trying to recreate oblivion as a mod - as long as they didn't use resources from the original oblivion itself to do it. Similar mods have been made in other games.

But if you have the skills to do such a thing, you should really be telling your own story, rather than Bethesda's again.
