Original Radiant Ai

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 1:50 am

Hi, My first post here.

I was wondering, is there a way to remove a restrictions from the ai, and restore it to what it was before bethesda had to "dum" it down for the sake of the game. I have read stories about the ai being so smart it was ruining the game by killing other npc which were needed for quests, for there own benefits.

this is one of the "hot topics" on the Skyrim forums. From what i knew of the CS before when i was making my own RAI mod though, there is no such dumbing down. imho, NPCs never had the capabilities they were "implied" to have (such as the video showing the lady cast paralysis and fire on her dog). everything in that video is still doable with the right packages.

the only restrictions i see are perhaps NPC factions, aggression and responsibility which define whether they'll take (steal) from others and whether those others will react.

Definitely worth!!

There is so much to discover with modifications. You can tweak whatever you want - Graphics, Gameplay, Music, New Lands, Quests, caves, races , etc

I have this game from 2006 on and was never able to actually play because it is so much fun to test new plugins.
The modifications of Oblivion are making the game about 10000000000000000000000% better.

And btw the community of Oblivion is absolutely fabulous! :foodndrink:

Asking if Oblivion is worth buying on the PC is like asking, "is air worth breathing?" As far as I'm concerned the Oblivion mod community is one of the seven wonders of the Internet.

Modded Oblivion = Best game ever. If you like vanilla then you'll never get bored of this.

Each of the woman's individual actions from the demo should still be possible, but you're still kinda limited to 1 AI package per hour so unless you can make some kind of generic 'interact with random stuff around you' package (The GECK has a nice Sandbox type package which kinda does that), you can't really make anything as complicated as that demo without scripting it. Despite what Todd said (and he's just repeating what some guy working on the AI told him), that particular sequence was most likely scripted.

Someone want to drop a link to that 'demo' video? I have never seen it and it sounds neat.

In particular the part that starts at 3:00, but the whole video is interesting.

Yeah, that video was such a smokescreen over the actual thing. Interesting to see what the game looked like during its earlier stages of development though. I see where Arthmoor got the idea for Anvil Reborn from.

Totally agree with you there. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I have yet to see anything that makes NPCs that alive, whether it be through the vanilla game or modded.

Watching it makes me somewhat sad rather than angry, seeing what might have been. That Oblivion's NPC AI is nowhere near as sophisticated as that displayed in the video has long been my greatest disappointment with the game. It's my only great disappointment really. I could nitpick the vanilla game to death, but by and large I'm content with its underlying mechanics. In any case mods allow us to correct many perceived deficiencies, whatever those might be.

Having seen that just now makes me wonder why the heck they did not keep the Radiant AI shown in the video. It would have made the game so much more interesting. And man did she punish that dog, she really must have hat a bad day. :D

Even with mods, there's no way we're approaching that. Too bad they didn't or couldn't keep that AI. I can see some stuff being controversial - I wonder if that's part of the reason if was removed...

again, that was most likely scripted. those scenes in the video can be done by package and script. the woman didnt "decide" to cast a spell on the dog because she was irritated. she did it because a script and package told her to.

Yeah, but they don't move that smoothly. You can almost see a package kick in in Oblivion: moon-walk for 10 seconds, then stare at wall, then move...

Now I'm starting to wonder what we're going to get with Skyrim!

I know one thing: I'm not going to trust anything they say the AI does or "show" the AI doing.

I remember a bs review in which the guy was saying something like this:
I threated an npc, he ran away, entered a shop, bought a sword and the fighted me

Sure...

The voices in the pseudo demo were way so much better than the vanilla ones :(
And npc really looked they they were taking, not following a script "voiceacting001> if time = day goto voiceacting 002 > voiceacting003"
