Unofficial Anime Thread X

I've tried multiple anime titles throughout the years: Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Deathnote, etc... I really just cannot get into this style of animation. I love that many of the studios still use traditional animation practices, and enjoyed Ponyo and that movie with the little girl and the black gooey demon that rejurgitates gold coins, but so many of them make me sleepy. It's not the foreign dubbing that bothers me (I watched and loved Epitafios) or the animation style (like I said I enjoyed other similar products on a short term) but something about the genre just bores me silly....

Anime isn't a genre, it's a medium. There are many genres of anime.

If you don't like the art style then it's probably just not for you, since that's one of the main draws. :)

Woudln't the medium actually be "watercolor animation" or "cell animation"....? Something like that?

EDIT: just did a little poking on Google, and this link seems like a really good explanation of GENRE vs. MEDIUM in relation to Anime.... http://www.radford.edu/~lcubbiso/personal/artform.htm

Hey, does anybody know if Sora no Woto has any form of BluRay release in Japan? It's got a DVD release for pre-order on Rightstuf, but I don't want to get it if there's a chance they're holding out on the BD release in America for whatever reason.

AFAIK, Right Stuf/Nozomi has no plans on releasing and BDs right now. That probably won't be changing for at least a year. I'm going to be bothering the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawne_Kleckner about this at AX

Start walking right now and you can make it!

I mean, you're the biggest Miku fan I know. There's still a bit over a month to beg, grovel, plea, and scrounge up the money needed.

Hmmm, 8200 miles for me. Plus I need to learn to walk on water. This is going to be one rough trip.

Maybe if I had a job... but alas, I do not. My dreams will have to wait to be fulfilled, for I cannot afford a plane ticket. :(

Also, I just got back from Anime Central. My chest is bruised from all the "free hugs", and I think going to AX so soon after is impossible for me.

Is the price of the Clannad/After Story DVD set more likely to go down or up over time? I dunno if I can afford $40 for each of them, but it's the last I need of the Key "trio".

I've been waiting for three months to get just the first half of part 3 of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood from Netflix, now, and it still has a "very long wait" label on it. I checked a local electronics/media store (they have anime), but they didn't have anything from Brotherhood, there are no video rental stores (and I doubt they would have it, anyway), and I'm sick of this waiting. Is my only option to wait?

You really should ask someone else, you are currently asking the person who bought both of them.... Twice. :P (once for each when they originally came out and once for each again when the boxsets came out)

Just wait until the there is a Section23 sale on rightstuf and pick them both up.

Do they have a sale schedule or would it just be best to get the newsletter in email?

Also, why twice? EDIT: I see, makes sense.
