No, I don't want any kind of inventory encumbrance. This feature in RPG's always annoyed me, since it meant I'd have to make multiple trips to the same place to pick up loot. Did it add to the realism? Slightly. It more often added to a sense of tedium.

Morrowind had an inventory grid? (I haven't played that one in quite awhile, but I thought it did inventory like Oblivion - you could keep carrying more stuff as long as you had weight.....)

As I recall, Morrowind displayed everything in a grid, as opposed to Oblivion's list. It was still one item per grid, though, and it in no way limited the amount you could carry. That still depended on str.

Inventory grid would either be too small(realistic) and be really annoying or too big; making it unrealistic anyway.

Stick with with normal TES model.

The grid does get annoying some times, but I honestly wouldn't mind maybe a more realistic take on strength. Just so you can't carry around 2 full mails and 3 warhammers and so on at the same time. Always thought it was a bit too much... Also, it would make buying houses make more sense.

Also! Banks like in Daggerfall, which have been a topic here several times, could also have a 'rentable vault' service or something besides handling money. Maybe also put weight on gold.

(I think I just wrote my own death sentence) :wavey:

It wouldn't work well on consoles. They will not do it no matter how much you want it

My desire for realism has it's limits and a grid inventory is on the wrong side of those limits. I just find them annoying. I don't even see it as being particularly more realistic, because you can still carry more than you really could with those types of inventory.

Exactly. Grid inventories aren't realistic themselves, and are in my opinion more annoying. If you're truly going for a realistic inventory, then you'd have to go along the lines of Far Cry 2 - one slot per weapon type, or something of the sort. And of course that'd be hell for any RPG. I'll stick with Morrowind/Oblivion style. Besides, modders will provide us with a grid system soon enough anyway.

i am the type of player that equips one weapon and stays with it until i find a better one adding realism to my play because i doesn't seem like im carrying alot , i don't switch between others like many players do in these types of games
my problem with grids is that i like to go exploring more than one cave before coming back to town and selling my loot, and with the grid system i would have to travel multiple times witch would anger me causing me to throw my controller at the wall. :brokencomputer:

i liked the system that oblivion used. you get stronger and can carry a bit more. if you had to much you bought a house and stored as much as you wanted in closets and barrels and stuff. i hope you still can get a house maid that makes food for you.

My habit for semi-obsessively organizing stuff would never let me get to playing the game from organizing my 30+ alchemical ingredients, 20+ different potions, different soul gems, enchanted rings and amulets, etc. So no please.

In respect to this topic, Daggerfall had what I thought was a very effective method of allowing the player to purchase a cart on which to carry extra items.

I have seen a horse in the trailer, and also, a pack mule/horse in concept art. Also if there are going to be carriages, I dont see why there couldn't be a cart or wagon in Skyrim.

http://cdn.zenimax.com/akqacms/files/tes/concept_art/WhiterunCityTundra.jpg.

I saw http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/06/94/69484_TheWitcher2AssassinsOfKings-Art-03_normal.jpg in some Witcher 2 type concept art.

Perhaps something smaller for Skyrim, pulled by a horse/mule/ox...etc, or even a push cart.

Interesting. I like the idea of traveling with pack mules/horses.

NO.

Grids have nothing to do with realism. Even if they did, inventory grids svck.

I am so glad to see that 74% of this poll is given to NO.

Ah, that's just a display/UI issue then, not a true "inventory grid" like the OP proposed. There were UI mods for Oblivion that'd change it to look that way, too. :)

IMO, the encumbrance system in Oblivion was great.
Then they made it even better in Fallout 3 by allowing you to still move while being over limit.
I'm sure they are gonna go one or even more steps ahead with Skyrim.

I'd like a spacelimited (and weight, both of them) grid inventory. It would add some much needed tension to the endless loothoarding, make the inventorymanagement more clear, and would greatly help the in-game economics. And thus would help to create a better overall experience. Needless to say it should be expandable through some means (buy a bigger backpack, improve carryweight through strength attribute - or, if the attributes are gone, through perks which could work with spaceexpansion too).

I get what you saying man, I feel you.

I agree with reaze, NPCs should be able to pick up loot we leave on the floor (Preferably scavengers, bandits, or thieves) when we are not around (Preferably not psychic though, only if they encounter them on their route).

Instead of making tedious trips, now we have to make big decisions on what is more important, hide the rest you can't carry with you nearby and hope some thieves don't stumble on your temporary stash.

Important
The more we carry, the slower we become (And consume a little fatigue, like very little to the point if you are fighting it will hinder you, but not much if just traveling) and become considerably slower when over encumbered (And if you are carrying a ridiculous amount freeze us like in oblivion.

Why? In OB I move freely like a butterfly and when I pick up a sword I suddenly become immobilized...we should be warned before this happens (With our kleptomania) with some sort of slow down.
Sudden immobilization is anti fun.

It would work fine on the consoles. They probably just wouldn't do it since it would add a chore mechanic to using your inventory.

When I played Diablo II for a few hours I got so sick of constantly using the endless teleport scrolls to go back to town and sell things or bank things as I tried to fit things in that stupid grid. It was neat for the first hour or two then was just annoying to me.
