Playing through again w/ OOO

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:59 am

I played Oblivion Vanilla to completion on 360 when it first came out. I have very good memories of those gaming sessions... Recently I bought Oblivion GOTY edition from Steam and got it running on my Mac using Crossover Games. It runs surprisingly well. The first thing I did was install OOO, which I was already aware of, to change up the gameplay a little bit. I didn't want to just repeat my same experience and I had always disliked the dynamic leveling of monsters and NPCs.

Before I get too far into game, I thought I'd ask for suggestions for smaller OOO-compatible mods that add some realism, flair or unique features to the game? Ideally I wouldn't have to start a fresh game to use them, but since I'm not too far in I would consider it if the features were really interesting.

I'm feeling pretty newbish when it comes to all the mods and such, so I'm also wondering if OOO still holds up to some of the newer gameplay altering mods out there?

Thanks!

OOO holds up fine IMO, although there are alternatives, such as FCOM, which makes it possible to combine OOO, MMM, Fran's, WarCry and more, as well as ROM and WarCry New Dimensions, both of which are huge overhauls. Make sure you're using http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159634-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul-133/.

I could recommend lots of mods (my entire load order in fact) but will just mention a couple of ones:

MMM - Adds new monsters, varieties of monsters, adds random stats, flee AI, a wounding system, more spawn points in the wilderness etc., basically transforming Cyrodiil to a much more dynamic and "living" world. A nice combination with OOO as well.

Realistic Fatigue - Makes Fatigue matter globally.

nGCD or Realistic Leveling - Seamless leveling in the background.

All Natural, Immersive Interiors, RAEVWD, Animated Window Lighting System - Excellent environmental mods.

I like Oblivion XP more that nGCD or Realistic Leveling, but it really does come down to a matter of taste.

Otherwise, I suppose there is deadly reflex, though I've never actually used it.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm on OOO 1.33. I installed it manually since I'm using Crossover. It seems to be working correctly and I assume I'm using the Full version since I didn't mess with any of the extra plugins.

I will definitely give MMM a try and probably one of the realistic leveling mods. I'm not sure my system will handle a ton of mods, so I'm just trying to pull together some choice picks.

I'd update to OOO 1.34 Beta 5. It has fixes and tweaks and also adds a one of the most beautiful swords made for the game. Also, you need it if you're going to use MMM.
