I can't believe the power of new Bethesda games...

I just got worn out of playing Oblivion after about 4 and half years...now am entranced by FO3, but am going to immediately give that up for Skyrim in about 6 and a half months....

I know it's absolutely amazing what they can pull off considering it's designed with 8 year old consoles in mind. Just imagine what they'll do on nextgen consoles.

Consoles? What is a console? I haven't used one of them since the early 1990s...

It makes me cry that game developers choose to port to pc from outdated tech instead of making it brilliant for the pc and then tuning it down for consoles. But I guess it's cheaper that way :(

it really shows how powerful a series when the critisisms that people like me have is that its potential is so high that I get disapointed even when its the best rpg out.

Er...do you know why the Construction Set (and now Creation Kit for Skyrim) exist on PC only and not consoles? Yep...because that's the program they use to make the game with, on PC.

Yeah but they design it for Xbox, not for the PC. But that will just start a flame war. It's going to be awesome either way, and anything else is just nit-picking. To me most complaints are like getting bought a Bugatti Veyron, and then complaining i didn't get the SuperSport.

It's amazing. I go from Oblivion to FO3 to Oblivion to FNV to Oblivion to Morrowind to FNV to Oblivion. I'd have to characterize myself as an open world gamer and I'm happy with that. I'll play other games if they interest me but they just haven't lately. When Skyrim comes out...well, I'd better be ready for the 2011 holidays early or there won't be any at my house because I'll be in Skyrim. :D

Yes--the primary development mark is consoles. Yes the development is done on PCs, because consoles can't do what a PC does. Every console game in the history of console games was built on a PC. But everything, design-wise, is built with the console in mind (and what you can do with a controller), instead of being developed for PC, and then ported over to console. I would love it if they would take that old way of doing things--design this as a PC game, then try to fit it into the console world--but they won't. They have reasons for that. You or I may argue that they're not valid reasons, but that, for now, is just spitting into the wind. Maybe as we come closer to the end of this 10-year cycle of consoles, the developers will tire of the limitations that the current gen can do, and just make a PC game instead. And then, maybe, just maybe, people who want to play those games will have broken enough Xboxes to make them say, "forget it! I've spent enough on this nonsense, I'm not buying another one. I'll just buy a PC instead!" And then all will be well.

I know just how you feel; I can't wait! I just hope that I don't have over expectations of it, because I'd always have the feeling that 'this could be better'.

I don't think it's a matter of cost, rather it's probably more to do with an agreement made with Microsoft / Sony, in order to have the game licensed for use on consoles (If the vanilla PC version massively outside the console version, less people would buy it on the consoles).

Time-wise I'd think. It must be much easier to convert to a platform that can handle it, than to convert (and perhaps re-design) for a platform that might not have the hardware the game demands.
