"...a shining elven glass sword."

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 3:51 am

A line jumped out at me immediately from the Gamespot article and it was the one posted in the thread title obviously.

Does this finally mean that races will have their own versions of weapons and armors or was it merely just a goof on the writer of the article?

"a shining elven glass sword" insinuates that maybe there is a Nord glass sword or an Imperial glass sword or an Argonian glass sword.

For years now I have said that instead of having leather armor, iron armor, steel armor, silver armor, elven armor etc. that there should be different types of iron armor, different types of steel armor, different types of silver armor; it shouldn't just all look the same because it's made from the same material. Maybe now that has changed. What do you guys think?

In Oblivion there was an elven class of weapons and armor (glass too).
So I think they meant like 'glass or elven sword, or both' because they maybe thought that it sounds better.

I wondered about this myself, but frankly after reading several of the articles I'm inclined to place the idea as "tentative" until we get some clarification from gamesas- as the writers doing these articles show signs of having rushed and assumed like it's going out of style. I like the idea of, for instance, "glass" being a material which can be used to make several types (Elven, Dwemer, etc) of items but just don't trust today's wave of contradiction-riddled articles to be particularly accurate. :)

I'm pretty sure that it's just the origin of the glass gear that we've had throughout the entire Elder Scrolls series.

For me,the writer doesn't know the diference between both,so he goes describing a glass sword like elvish looking, that's just my 2 cents.

I would love to see whole branches of weapons like orcish ebony weapons. a formula like; race type + material type = much more variety without having to come up with a new kind of material like addimidium or the like.

Exactly.

I imagine if an Orc made a sword using the magical glass material, it would look entirely different than if an elf made a sword using the same material.

Orcish weapons should look completely different from Khajit weapons and Argonian weapons and Breton weapons and Dunmer weapons etc. regardless of whether they're made with the same materials.

The guy who wrote that probably has to do a retrospective on Call of Duty, review an awful Korean rpg with a girl with corset armour on the box, then try and collect 'em all again in the latest Pokemon, they will always make mistakes that seem glaring when they discuss your game.

Maybe it's the way Fine, Rusty etc was in OB they use the races ability to forge to classify the armour now?

it would be nice if they did that, and each race would have a top tier weapon made from the strongest material so that people who didn't like the look of the deadra weapons could use a weapon with a different look without sacraficing the power of the weapon.

I think it was just a typo, like how some site said that the level cap would be 25

lol yeah I just read that.

Also though, the screenshot of the Orc shows him holding a weapon that only an orc would forge. It's brutish and curved looking, matching him perfectly.

I'm really hoping there are differently styled weapons for different races.

I don't think this is a typo...at least one other source has called it "Elven Glass" (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-18-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-preview?page=4). Makes me wonder if they are writing what they saw when they opened up the treasure chest. In which case, would lend credence to the theory that there might be more than just the standard "material" based weapon system.

As far as I know, all glass weapons and armor are elven made, so he just said it redundantly.
I don't know whether it's Dunmer or Altmer made though...
