In search for A Song of Ice and Fire modification

I don't know if somebody asked before, so I will ask here. Is there anybody who is making total conversion of Oblivion into the world of G. R. R. Martin? Or at least planning to do it for upcoming Skyrim (as there will be dragons) ;)

I can say with 99.95% certainty that nobody is making this. SImply put, total conversions are simply too big for people to make.

There are however several smaller aSoIaF themed mods out there, including Ice and heraldic capes (afair). A search on Nexus should turn up some stuff.

Thank you lady Nerevar. I hope that somebody will decide to make a TC mod. It would be quite cool if I could visit, or even I restore Winterfell, lay siege to Castlely Rock, and hook up with Starks...ahh, maybe for Skyrim :)

Eh. As a world, Westeros ain't all that interesting. What makes it great is the story, and thats impossible to transfer to the mod. Any TC worth its salt would have to write its own story making the player the hero, and writing a story as good as Martin's is no easy task. Game mechanics like large armies and sieges would also be difficult, if not impossible, to do.

Rather then doing a total conversion someone should do something smaller like creating a story mod around Arya Stark after going to Braavos. There wouldn't be a problem with technical limitations with armies and since Braavos is on several islands you can easily limit the size of the area that needs to be made.

PS. This would be a good time for a mod with the tv series coming out next month and the next book coming in July.

I agree with what you say, but for the "impossible" part. I would say, rather, "very difficult indeed". ;) Because it could be done. Total conversions have happened, with their own storylines, etc.

As for large armies, I don't think most characters would need to be involved directly, so you could - if anything at all - simply use video for that. Sieges? Likewise, I suppose.

It would be one hell of a lot of work -well, I can only imagine, really. But I suspect it could be done. Just not sure if the Gamebryo engine would be the best choice anyway... :unsure2:

I'm reading the series now (am on Storm of Swords), so would appreciate if spoilers are not posted in open view... though I agree wholeheartedly with Lady Nerevar that one can't replicate the magnitude of that saga via a game...

BTW, I read in one of the interviews that folks at BGS are big fans of the series, and are also playing the A Song of Ice and Fire table-top games...
