Are some skies too bright?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 3:18 am

Personally i take a lot of time in looking at in-game skies whenever i buy. I think its amazing when artists really do a good job including cloud details especially. And ithink all Skyrim needs to do is take a look at their co-worker's exports: http://www.bluesnews.com/screenshots/games/rage/20090819/rage_gc09_screenshot_3.jpg

This. I hope BGS take no offense for this, but Rage's skies win over Skyrim's a thousand times in beauty and epicness, in my honest opinion.

Look at this as well :P

Took you even less time to fish out a better screen! I agree.

Makes me wonder. We can clearly see that Rage uses dynamic skyboxes. You can spot that easily.

But do Skyrim use dynamic skyboxes? It's a pretty "easy" thing to do (mods have done it for F:NV for instance, and almost every new game has it). I can't really see if Skyrim uses it. Can you? Would be easier to see if the sky wasn't so bright...

In this screenshot for instance (http://tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/172525-1295572329.jpg), it kinda looks like Oblivion's skies. Two cloud layers repeating themselves over and over and again and again all over the sky. But we don't see the entire sky so I'm unsure. Dynamic skyboxes usually mean more clouds in a different shape near the horizon.

Can you seriously say... 'i care'

Nope.

Skies look fine to me, I've seen far worse ones...outside in the real world.

I'm more worried about the skies during the night and rain/snowstorms. SI gave me a glimpse at stunning skies.

I agree, that looks stunning. I didn't even know console games could do that. Having said that, I don't know what Skyrim has going on in the full game and they're going for a different climate that may have bearing on what kind of skies to expect. I would love to see the beauty of that Rage screen, but that doesn't mean I'm at all disappointed with anything I've been shown from Skyrim so far as it is realistic, bright skies and all. We'll just have to wait and see what they have in store and hope they're capable of producing what's in that screen depending on the weather of the moment.

Ive been using All natural mod for such a long time that I forgot how the vanilla sky was.

I'm a whole lot more worried about interiors being way to bright.

It is a historical fact that all Bethesda games are bright...probably to help customers who don't see as well as 20/20 youthful Einstein. HOWEVER...that is why there is a slider control for BRIGHTNESS! Besides...I always end up putting on a mod that makes it even darker...to add to the FEAR FACTOR.
