NPC's movement stuttering in the IC

Hiya everyone,

I was running a copy of Oblivion + FCOM + various gameplay tweaks all fine and dandy until last night when I introduced the 3X leveling esp from Frans items and creatures, (did a re-install and then selected the esp in wyre-bash followed by a recreate of the bash patch).

Now when I am walking through the IC all the npc actors appear frozen until I approach within a close distance, such that they then start to move as expected and go about thier routines, talking to other NPC's. If I move away and look back they have frozen again until I approach them.

Anyone seen this behaviour before and have an idea how I have introduced it ? and more importantly how I could remove it ?

Shouldn't be caused by the 3x leveling esp, so I guess something went awry with the Fran reinstall in general. Post your load order via Wrye Bash: Right-click File-header > List mods > Paste into post

Also, with FCOM you already have c. 3X Leveling via OOO, so no need for the Fran esp.

Thanks for the reply, Ill get the load order posted tonight (at work at the mo) and understand the complexities that having a lot of mods may introduce conflicts. I had been adding new mods in quite successfully using the above procedure, just noticed this unexpected behaviour after the last update. :(

I guess I was hoping for a quick *ahh yes* it is this that is causing the issue.

Stuck NPC's are not so uncommon and almost always caused by AI overload, i.e. if you have loads of mods adding NPC's to the Imp City that could be the cause. But I don't think I've heard of NPC's that are stuck but start moving when the PC gets closer, so it seems rather weird.

I recognized such behavior only with companion mods like Alba and Viconia de Vir. But it wasn't restricted only to the IC. Also I never found a fix for that. I'm curious if it can be fixed.

Ahh, that might be it then, I did install the Viconia companion mod, but didnt have her accompanying in the same location, she was left at home doing the dishes.

I hadn't noticed the stuttering any other place and dungeons did not appear to be affected as I entered Fatback Cave with no noticable stuttering of any enemy NPC's.

It would be a pity to have to let my house cleaner go in order to have the rest of the IC get back to thier own business :(

an update, the above list does not contain the mods that introduced the stutter. I removed the underdark, tron and underdark saga mods which were included to allow the Viconia de Vir companion.

After removing these mods the stuttering behaviour was not present anymore, so the question now is why these mods would introduce the stuttering and is there a fix or workaround to allow enabling these mods again ?

What's Tron? Is it connected to the Underdark mods? Do you have a link?

I am pretty sure it is the main Underdark mod, "The Realm of Northdark".
