So, what are your thoughts?
I think it will be a good addition to the gameplay.

Thanks for the info and the link!

For those who don't want to read the article:

"We're still messing with limb amputation", Howard assures the assembled press. "But it won't be as violent as Fallout 3."

Brilliant find :D I think some form of dismemberment without violence on par with FO3 is what most people wanted. Brutal, gritty, but not crass or excessive,

I just hope it doesn't happen too often. Every time I've seen dismemberment in a game it looks unrealistic and silly.

I want my Skyrim to be srs bizns.

New spells and weapon attributes are introduced - by knocking lamps from the roof, multiple enemies can be immolated.

If you can't disable it hopefully there will be a mod to do so.

This is indeed a treat.

I had been wondering and was on the fence about it for awhile. On the one hand I thought this would be great but if they don't add it then that's alright I suppose.

I'm glad they're going this route though. This is going to be fun.

That's nice to hear, admitably, he said they're still messing with it, but the way it's worded makes whether it will be in the game sound less uncertain than werewolves or mounts did when Todd was asked about them, more like Bethesda is still unsure of how much dismemberment their should be rather than whether it will be in the game. And if the game is going to have dismemberment, I'd certainly want it to be less extreme than Fallout 3, more of something you occassionally get with certain finishing moves rather than being able to sever someone's head cleanly with a slash from a dagger.

Pretty much. Fallout is meant to be over the top, but that's Fallout.

It's hard for me to take Todd's word when he says that none of what he's showing is scripted after Oblivion, but I'm liking the direction of the PR this time around. They're very careful to let us know when something is liable to change or when they're still playing around with a feature. I just hope they manage to get mounts in after the Inside Xbox breakdown of the trailer paused at the windmill scene and loudly told everyone "HORSES CONFIRMED".

^ I assume you mean less extreme than Fallout, since Oblivion had zero dismemberment.

You're right, it seems I made a mistake, guess I should have proof-read it. Fallout 3's dismemberment was kind of over-the-top, and that was fine with me for Fallout, but for the Elder Scrolls, I'd like something slightly more realistic, not that I hope for the violence to be completely realistic, it just needs to be believable.

Are they actually a reliable source? I'm skeptical because none of the other journalists mentioned dismemberment or burning people with lamps, and there were a lot of articles yesterday.

Fallout 3 had it, I'm not really surprised.

Meh. Hopefully it doesn't get in the way / get annoying, too much.

Random Exploding Limb Syndrome fit in the tongue-in-cheek Fallout world. But I've never really felt any connection between the Elder Scrolls games and things like, say, God of War. Random gratuitous flying limbs seems more like a sophomoric/fratboy thing, not something that fit the atmosphere of TES.

Ah, well.

No they aren't reliable and took Todd's words out of context. Other previews have stated that they aren't sure if it will be in and they're tinkering with it. Far from confirmed.

Interesting. I think this could translate into a bleak possibility of having locational damage.
