Still messing with the mods, I have deactivated many of the above mods and want just the following:

Better Cities and it's associated .esp's/.esm's
Battlehorn Castle and it's patch
Mehrune's Razor and it's patch
Knights and it's patch
Vile Lair and it's patch
Hunter's Haven
Kumiko Manor
Living Economy
Nacosto Isles
Waterfish
OOO .esm & .esp
Oblivion patch
Windfall .esm & .esp
and Oblivion.esm of course

The same mods still aren't showing up. :unsure2:

1) Are you applying the proper bash tags?

2) Are you merging mods marked in green (and only those mods)? I can see at least one (OOO Level Rates x2) that isn't merged)

3) Empty eyes and purple shoes means you're missing meshes and textures - it has nothing to do with the esp itself. Make all the secondary files are installed.

4) Honestly, I'd replace LE with Enhanced Economy. It's not a whole lot bigger, it's more customizable, and doesn't have the bugs that LE does (like the 65K gold bug).

What exactly do you mean by "not showing up in game", to paraphrase?

As a general rule, if the esp/esm is activated (e.g., "ticked", in Wrye Bash) its effects will "show up" in the game. Well, so long as any resources they might need are also where they should be (like, say, textures, meshes, etc.) Of course, some can be deactivated and still "work" - for example, if they have been merged into the Bashed Patch. So long as the Bashed Patch is activated, obviously.

Um. I'm not sure what's going wrong, because... it doesn't seem clear, to me. Perhaps I just don't understand.

(edited - never mind that bit...)

edit: The most important thing is to *read* readme files. And the OPs of current release threads, for some mods, like FCOM for instance. If you have done so, and followed the instructions and advice every time, you should be fine. Also, however, the http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35230, in addition to the site I linked to above, is extremely helpful, if you're even a bit unsure about Wrye Bash.

1) the bash tags that BOSS recommends are already applied, so I haven't added any tags.
2) Do you mean build a bashed patch with only the green mods? When I build a bashed patch it asks if I want to merge the green mods and I say yes ...
3) I found the source of the empty eye sockets- it was the beautiful people mod.

@ Breton: I've gone through the Wrye Bash pictorial guide and I'm pretty sure I have that down. As for the read me's, I also read through those to figure out exactly what I needed to do to install each mod. There may be a texture/ mesh issue. Before I understood any of the Wrye Bash, TES4Edit program, BOSS, and all that I was just throwing textures and meshes from a downloaded mod unto any folder within my Oblivion folder that was also called "textures" or "meshes". i probably put the meshes and textures into the wrong folders at least once, but I have no idea how to go back into those folders (even if I can find the wrong folders I put them into) and remove and move the textures and meshes into the right folders. Should I uninstall everything and then re-install correctly, starting with the Oblivion.esm program itself?
I tried correcting any texture/ meshes errors I may have made after I learned about the various programs and correctly reading the read me's by re-installing every mod into the correct folders. I figured (incorrectly?) that as long as one incidence of the meshes and textures from every mod were in the correct folders, than the junk that I mistakenly put in the wrong folders would be removed or deleted by TES4Edit or Wrye Bash afterwards.

I am not the one to answer this but i can help you in the right direction...

First...there is a thread here for Wrye bash...they know the program inside out!
When on the MOD tab in bash are the mods Checked?....by default bash does not put a check mark on the MOD for you.
Are you using BAIN to install the mods?
There are PIC tutorials on nexus that can help also!

I always install ONE mod at a time....Check and play the Game for a while. So yes it took me almost 6 months to install and test 212 mods! But I play 3-6 hour sessions. and Rarely ever crash thanks to Bash, BOSS, OSR, And LLA patch!

Edit for the Edit above......for your peace of mind....hell yes. Learn BAIN it rocks you wont ever look back.and remember one mod at a time!

But BASH can also help you here. IF you create a BAIN installer for a mod...and even when it is NOT installed you can right click that mod(on installer tab) and UNINSTALL it even when it is not installed. this would remove those files thus allowing you to REinstall said mod.this is also in the readme. I have not used this feature .

Not sure what you mean, but most mods require the game to be patched so make sure it's patched to 1.2.0416.

Yes, the mods I wanted were checked.
I used BAIN only for the mods I downloaded after I started correctly using Wrye Bash (only Oscuro's Overhaul, and the unofficial Oblivion patch & it's supplemental).
Check and play the game awhile? Wouldn't spells I previously bought (like "weak kill" in OOO) show up immediately (yes, OOO has appeared before, but it's not appearing now)? Wouldn't I know if my mods are working just by looking there and seeing if that spell is present?

@Arkngt: I came to believe that I didn't need 1.2.0.416 if I didn't have Shivering Isles. I do need it?

Pretty sure both OOO & UOP require 1.2.0.416 get that you really do need it!

This mod is a joint effort to fix the vast amount of bugs currently existing in Oblivion v1.2.0.416, fixing over 1,800 bugs so far!

Thats from the readme for the UOP...the UOP patch IS for 1.2.0.416

Yes. Why would I have said it otherwise? Or, if you need a second opinion, why ask me again? I'll probably answer the same thing again. :)

Just wanted to note that I didn't have Shivering Isles (as I said before, I was under the mistaken impression that I didn't need it if I didn't have SI).
I'm downloading it now.
Honestly, no offense was intended (please don't stop helping me because I inadvertantly pissed you off)

No, not pissed off at all - just seems unnecessary to repeat the same answer. You need to patch the game to 1.2.0.416 either with SI or without it.

Some other notes:

* 06 Living Economy.esp - Use Enhanced Economy instead as LE has some issues. EE requires OBSE, but you will want to use OBSE mods anyway.

* ++ LRM_Generic.esp - This is a generic Level Rates Modified file for custom settings. Don't use.
* 26 Level_Rates_Modified_x2.esp - X2 is quite fast with OOO, which has c. X3 slower on default. I'd recommend starting out on default rather. And to use Progress if you want it slower or faster (also requires OBSE).

* 28 Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp (I think this one is showing up, but's it's very corrupted: i.e. empty eye sockets, purple shoes, etc... I've been trying to run the game without this mod) - I'd recommend staying away from BP. It doesn't play nicely with other cosmetic/race mods.

New problem. I'm using the TESIV:POSitive guide. It wants me to uninstall Oblivion (to get it back to it's vanilla state: "Those users that need to revert to the vanilla state but do not have all of the original files (BSAs and folders) backed up somewhere, should probably go back to the previous step and uninstall the game").
When I go to setup.exe though, it only will let me install the program - when it's already installed.
That not working, I tried to delete the entire C:Oblivion folder. That didn't work.
What do I do now?

I'm trying to use the directions in the Hardware/Software Issues Forum, but when I get to this step:
8.)Go into explorer find the C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion folder (if it is still there) and delete it.
It says "You need permission to perform this action", I hit try again and it just reverts back to the same panel: "You need permission to perform this action".
Note that I have Oblivion in C:\Oblivion (because I'm on Vista).
So, I'm stuck there too.

To un-install anything on windows, its best to go through start, control panel, un-install a program (or if you are in classic view - Programs and features, Add remove programs (depends also on operating system where you find this))

Find Oblivion in the list of installed programs, right click and un-install.

This not only removes files but also de-registers the installation.

If you have deleted the game folder out of desparation, depending on where the un-installer information was kept, you may have stuffed the un-installation. But give it a go anyway, it may clean up whatevers left. If control panel removes Oblivion from the list of installed programs after the un-install all should be okay for a re-install (which will just overwrite what was there before anyway, and make sure registry entries are correct)

If after the above all goes well with the re-install, carry on re-installing necessary modding tools/mods (no need to weed out Python, you already have a successfull install of that which Wrye Bash should recognise when you re-install it. And because (hopefully) you have not deleted your Wrye Bash settings (which will be in amongst the files in your user account), that should end up pretty much the same as it was before (with the exception of having to do a full refresh of installers if using BAIN) - Looks like you are already following best advice and keeping it out of C:\Program Files so no UAC complications should arise.

Edit: Oh wait, just seen your edit, you have two locations for Oblivion installation?, When the game installs, where did it actually install to?, C:\Oblivion (which would have been good), or C:\Program files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion (which becomes protected by UAC and causes admin problems). Are you on an administrators account? - I think http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html and get used to basic operating system usage (I know its huge, sorry but its the most complete guide to any version of windows I know of - Lots of tips too).

I actually moved it from Program Files/Bethesda Softworks to C:\Oblivion.
It's okay now. I just re-installed the game on top of of what I had and then uninstalled it (I think I can figure these things out if I just sit on them and think about if for a while, lol).

Yey, back on track. Seriously though grab that windows guide (just the regular version download), you might fall asleep a few times reading it ( I have :) ) but its very concise.

You'll be pleased to know I cant think of any more walls of text to point you at just now. :foodndrink:

Return to IV - Oblivion
