If Skyrim came out today?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 2:30 am

I keep reading about how great the PC version of Skyrim will look in comparison to the 360 and PS3 version.

What are some power house gaming PCs that are available now(or in the fall) and are not to expensive? I might think about getting a fantastic PC in November and then using HDMI and hook it up to my big screen TV and play it with an Xbox controller.

What do you guys think?

I think if you wisely spent $1000 on a gaming pc and got:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6950-unlock-build-a-pc-overclock,2893.html

You'd be able to buy that PC for like $700 come October and $1000 would get you a much better PC in October.

How on earth can the PC version look better than the PC version, even after fixing? xD

At a HDMI resolution (1920x1080) Then you'd probably want something like an I5 750, 4GB ram... the biggest factor though is the graphics card, you'd probably want a GTX 560/570/470
or a 5850/5870. We don't know anything until the official specs come out.

I'm no expert on the subject, but from what I've been told it would be much more cost effective to build your own PC rather than buy one premade from a company like Dell or HP. I'll be building my own one, but I don't want to start buying hardware untill the specs are released for Skyrim... which probably won't be till abour September/October time.

Pah... as if I would even bother calling them - it would waste valuable dragon slaying time.

Oh, also, buy from Newegg.com. They usually have the best prices on hardware, and they always have sales and whatnot, reducing the price even more.

Maybe you should consider doing what I did. Buy your PC one or two parts at a time to help defer the cost. Over the last 2 months I've bought a i7-2600k processor ($ 330), an Asus p8-p67 motherboard ($ 161), Cooler master HAF 932 full tower case ($ 150), Western digital 1.5 TB hard-drive ($ 100), Windows 7 ($100), and tomorrow i pick up 1 4 gig ram stick (about $60), and an 850W power supply ( about $200). I'll put my old graphics card, a GeForce 8800 in it and she'll run great for start. Sometime in the next few months I'll grab a Ge Force 570 video card ($350) and more ram ($60 per 4 gigs) , a Solid state boot drive ($100) , and a second hard drive to run in RAID config ($100). Less than $1600 spread over 4 months = less than $400 a month for an awesome, graphics stomping, uber overclockable machine. Buy a second graphics card to run in tandem and It's still less than $2000 total and you wont need a new computer for at least 5-6 years if not more, while getting max graphics settings far into the foreseeable future. I also found that getting a few pieces a month really let me do my research, learn about what every part of a computer does in great detail, and gave me lots of time to youtube and research the assembly of said parts. The manual for the Asus mother board takes all of the guess work out of what get plugged into where, and the clear labeling of all wires in the Coolermaster box helped greatly. So, we've got 200 days or so till Skyrim is released! My advice.. buy a great processor and get started simply with that. Watch the rest of your system-to-be grow like sea-monkeys in the months to come!! Excelsior!!!
