Ausgamer skyrim article

By far the best write-up I've read...from a site I've never heard of (being in the US...this makes sense) I love that they brought up some negatives...for some reason that makes me more hopeful for the final product. Not sure why.

Thanks for posting.

At the same though do I really care about bugs/glitches 6 months from release? If these were the last wave of preview articles before release, say in September, then yea I'd be interested in problems. Not 6 months before on an unfinished game though. Give me details on the game, not bugs right now.

"Our first taste of combat was in the first-person, and I did feel that more work needed to be done on contact animation and hit detection - it just looked a little laggy, or out. I’m sure this is something that can be broached by the time the game is released in November, but it'd be remiss to preview the game and not bring it up."

hopefully BGS will look into this

Questionable hit detection can be seen in the trailer when the one NPC pretty much misses the other with his sword swipe, but blood can still be seen.

Yea that's the scene. I'm sure something that major will be sorted out though. They are still probably fine tuning the combat system.

I hear what you're saying, but I prefer when someone gives me the good and the bad, as I'm more likely to put stock into their opinion. I have no idea if the concerns they brought up are relevant to where they are at in the development cycle since I'm not a game developer (ie: saying graphics look muddy and jagged in pre-alpha is probably a pointless observation). But I'm glad to see descriptions of what they are seeing beyond straight praise.

Personally, my only two major concerns with this game is the flow and feel of combat and dragon fights.

In terms of the combat: While havok behavior may allow better animations and a more natural flow, it is still likely we will get the slightly awkward detachment that BGS games generally have in terms of melee combat. Hopefully with the addition of slight magnetism, the combat will be less sporadic, more focused, and overall look more realistic and brutal.

In terms of dragon fights: While they will clearly be our hardest adversaries in Skyrim, I have a concern that while the dragon fights may be unpredictable, difficult and have an arsenal of moves and attacks, they will be even more so monotonous and turn into a "not another dragon... I don't want to waste half my items again." The fights ideally need to be exciting and intense. The last thing we need (and this fits somewhat into the combat issue) is a simplistic and long-winded hack and slash and heal spam.
