[WIPz] The Comeback of the Dawn

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:10 am

Keep it up! Never say die! This is going to be so fun!

Don't plan to let it die :)

Do you and your friend plan on doing this entire mod yourself?

No definately not. The problem is that we simply can't. We're svcky exterior designers. For example, the whole castle thing is going to be very hard to do, but we already have a plan for this. We're just hoping this person can find the time to help us.

As for the Ebonarm idea, I think this would be a way to enhance the mod to more than what you currently have going on for you. Perhaps as the Mythic Dawn begins the skirmishes in the cities of Cyrodiil, you begin to have the tale of Ebonarm's warriors unfold before you. You will see them in places, and cutscenes, etc. But you will not actually fight any of them until much later in the mod--perhaps after a few battles with the Empire. They could be very strong, with some kind of magical helmets or some sort, and all ebony armor (as a pun).
Yeah, that's pretty neat, we want the whole ebonarm thing to be a late-game thing, not early on. The shift of power, which obviously occurs in stages, will slowly trigger the awakening of the ebonarm faction.

But I think the epicness of this mod could be enhanced greatly if you decided to shift the focus onto another enemy. Fighting the Empire will be old stuff, and you could turn this into an amazing quest mod.

True, but the problem for us was basically the ES lore. We'd rather not break it completely or add new stuff, but rather blend in already excisting stuff. That's where the Ebonarm idea came from. It will definately not be entirely lorefriendly, but it should be believeable enough! Basically, in the early stages you will have to deal with the already excisting enemies such as the Empire, Blades etc. Greatly decreasing their opposition will cause a shift in power from those factions to the Mythic Dawn, which as I already mentioned will trigger the Ebonarm faction to respond.

As for your plan, I see a few details, but I think it might actually be a good idea to write everything out before-hand--all of the NPC's, the scenes you will include, everything. Then you could turn to other modders for help in implementing different stages of this product.

We have, for the most part. The only thing that isn't fully documented is the main quest, possible mini side quests and the ebonarm faction. I believe there was/is a link in the OP to the plan, although I'm not sure if it still works. I'll see that it's fixed if it doesn't work anymore :)

Of course, this all depends on how big you want this mod to be, but you might get a lot more support if you think of an entire plan--no matter how large it is.

Our plan mentions we needed a plan in order for the mod to ever see the light of day ;)

If you have any needs for help on writing quests, or the mod, or cutscenes, etc., I would be willing to help. Heck, I'd write a novel on this if you wanted me to.

Take a look at the plan! the url should be in the first post (I'll make sure it's working as soon as I click the add reply" button to post this post).

EDIT: MegaUpload link still works, removing the Rapidshare one.

Just some suggestions for you. The bases look great, btw!

Thank you, I'm not sure if I should say this, but I think we're not bad at interior designing. If only our exterior design skills were that good :(

Some of you may have also noticed that I haven't been online lately, think nothing of it ;)

Well, my friend is being a lazy git again at the moment so I figured I'd get started on the Athynia Shrine Library. Want to fill it up good. Everybody who has done extensive interior decorating in the CS knows what a pain it is to fill bookshelves with a large variety of books. I decided to mix static booksets with "real" books. Then mix them up a little to get a feel of variety. It's tedious, it's slow, but it works and it looks pretty decent. Still a lot of work to do as you can see on the screenshots posted below and I'm not only talking about the bookshelves itself. The rest of the room needs to be finished as well.

Tiny update, mostly an attempt to say that this is not dead, as it isn't.

It's saddening that, due to lack of people, the progress on this mod seems to be so slow... Such a shame, because I would DEFINITIVELY help if I had any skills with the CS at all.

Yes, we realize this. Unfortunately, there's nothing much we can do about it right now (and it's not needed now either, the stuff we're working on is perfectly doable by the two of us). In the future we hope to have some help.

That's perfectly fine, Trademark, take as much time as you need. Now that I think about it... Having less people working on a project helps coordinate things better, actually.

Well there are downsides as well as upsides. Most importantly right now is that there is progress and although it may not be very fast, we're progressing. Like yesterday I took care of most of the pathing in the Athynia Shrine interiors. I also split the Library and Administration cells, since keeping them combines pretty much killed the FPS (Trust me, the amount of manually placed books in the library is not good for your PC :P). Splitting the two seems to have helped massivly.

So yeah, still going and going. Thinking of doing some work on the Arrius caverns next, just to get out of the whole Ayleid ruin setting :)

Alright, time for an update! I have some good news and some bad news. Let's start with the bad news. My original plan for the library is out the door. In the WIP screenshots you see that I stacked a few "wall shelves" in roder to give the library a "grand" feel. Unfortunately, the amount of books cause too much of an FPS hit. My system is reasonably powerful, but the FPS dips pretty badly (Core i7 920/Radeon 4870 1GB). However, the good news is that the new version doesn't look any worse. Quite frankly, I like it better than my original idea (Hopefully, you'll feel the same way)! That's not where the good news ends though, it seems to me that the Athynia shrine is nearing completion in terms of interior design/decorating and pathing, meaning we can move on to the next location. But wait, there's more good news, I've received a private message from someone who is working on the Underdark project as well and wishes to help us to complete this mod (To this person: I'll get back to you ASAP, but since it's 3am here right now, I'd rather not make myself look like a fool by typing a PM full of errors...) And now a few screenshots:

Sorry for the lack of updates. My wonderful graphics card is taking the piss. It's dying, so I'm going to RMA it. In the meantime I can't really do anything. My friend will of course continue. This shouldn't take very long.

This looks great... I just have one request... don't forget http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Eldamil, he was a very cool character in the vanilla game and I would love to see him rewarded for helping the player in Paradise.

Yes, it's coming along quite well. It's a bit slow at times due to these minor setbacks, but all in all it's ok. I've dropped off my graphics card at my retailer today (I'm close friends with the guy so it shouldn't take long for the issue to be resolved) and he gave me a Radeon HD 3850 to use for now. I've also been following your mod seeing as a few people have asked for compatibility patches, but I don't think it will be very doable :P

I'm not sure yet on how Paradise will turn out, so not entirely sure if Eldamil will be featured in this mod.

Some screenshots of the redesigned Dagonite shrine (Lake Arrius Caverns shrine). Since the base has been compromised by the Blades in the past, the shrine has been transformed to a military support base (giving it more chance to withstand a direct attack). Although the shrine is no longer essential to the Mythic Dawn it does serve as a nice army reserve. There will be no important documents and no important Mythic Dawn agents in the "facility".

Dig in!

Compatibility notes: This is "new" content. The original Lake Arrius cells are not affected. This is done to minimize conflicts.

You're doing a great job, keep it up =D
I'd love to see some real wars in Oblivion, like the 'Great Gate' quest from the MQ.

I do have one question: When, during the main quest, you're in a city you can get attacked by Mythic Dawn agents. Will it be something like this? But then the other way around, like undercover blades reveal themselves and try to kill you?
Because i'd like to see that happen.

Though I'm not a great modder or something (doesn't mean I súck:P), if you need any help just send me a pm. I'm Dutch too, maybe that would make things easier.
I'd be glad to help because I really love the idea for the mod.

Nor I! :lmao:

I've had some requests to make RST compatible with Mythic Dawn progression mods and it's looking a bit like oil and water, just never going to go together. They can just play one than the other I have no doubt folks will get by without being Blades AND Mythic Dawn. :P

Keep up the great work, matey! :foodndrink:

Bad news: We didn't win the world cup.

Good news: The world cup is over and I'm basically taking a few weeks off to relax (and mod). :P Progress has been a bit slow at the moment, but it should get going again!

So, it's been a bit quiet around this mod mainly because I've focussed on some more "side"-details of this mod (such as Smite of Order which will in some form be included, but needs to be fixed first). In any case, I've been redesigning the dining room table, giving it more variety than the older version. It's not entirely done yet, but getting close. I want to have the Athynia Shrine wrapped up as soon as possible now.

Did some more work on the dining room (which is going really slow for some odd reason, can't seem to get it finished o.O). It's still not entirely finished. I also did the kitchen today which turned out pretty well IMHO:

I was very muck looking forward to play it a couple of years back so I hope that it is still worked on.
