The Elder Scrolls: Fallout

Your entire post is wrong. Actually read information before you post on it.

This. Stop posting your nonsensical fears, please. Pay attention to what is stated in the info we have been given. Then, after that, realize who you're talking about: Bethesda. I think they know better than any of us about how to make an awesome game. Especially in the TES series.

Ow, man! This game is really gonna look like Fallout, which I don't like. No attributes, less skills, no birthsigns, perks...

Fallout 3's leveling was an improvement over Oblivion's. Bethesda is simply taking inspiration from one of their greatest games. I don't see where they messed up...

I want to train my skills, not get them suddenly.

Then you'll be happy to know that's exactly the way it'll work.

I want an RPG menu, not simple and boring. I want to think and make decisions, that's what a good RPG does.

Last time I checked, Fallout is still an RPG...

I can't get exited about the Fallout system.

Then don't play Fallout?

Well, let's see....

No attributes - um, Fallout had those.

Less skills - yeah, there's three less skills. Not sure how that relates to Fallout, but whatever

no birthsigns - Yeah, Fallout had no birthsigns.... but then, neither do most RPGs

perks - picking specific special abilities when you level up. Many RPGs have those, under a variety of names (feats, talents....). Other than the actual four letters P E R K, not sure how that's Fallout

And now we can choose which skills we want to improve after a level-up? Why is that? I want to train my skills, not get them suddenly. - you gain skill points by doing them, just like previous TES games. The "perks" on levelup are just ways to specialize your skills (Imagine them as an alternate method to the "bonus" abilities you gained at 25/50/75/100. You get a choice now, instead of just some automatic thing! Improvement!)

I want an RPG menu, not simple and boring. - not sure they said they were removing menus, not sure what you're going for here. And Fallout had pretty complex menus, too.

I want to think and make decisions, that's what a good RPG does. - The Fallout games had a good bit more "choice" to them than Oblivion did, so..... Also, being able to pick perks on levelup (based on your skills, and which skills you want to modify, etc) seems alot more "choice" and "thinking" than..... "gee, I leveled up. Guess I'll take the three highest stat bonuses"

I can't get exited about the Fallout system. - It's not "the Fallout system". It's the Skyrim system.

A level-up doesn't bother me. - again, what?

I'm pretty sure you've got that wrong. They keep stressing that the more you use a skill, the more that skill levels.

Ok, prepare for itemized rebuttals.

1.) No attributes.
- I honestly don't know how many times Todd Howard has to say it, all your skills have to do with attributes. So, if you are using one handed swords a lot and those level up, this means you are also enhancing your strength. If you level up sneaking, you are leveling up agility. If you are leveling up certain magics, you are leveling up your intelligence. Do you see? If I'm a heavy hitting warrior leveling up a claymore, and you are a mage leveling up Destruction, then by default your character is more intelligent than my character (as far as your character's intellect towards magic than my warrior.) I don't know how more simply to put this, or how many times Bethesda can describe it.

2.) The ability to train skills versus "just getting them."
- Um, again, Todd Howard and Bethesda has said that you get skills in certain areas by USING them. How is this not training a skill? If I use conjuration x amount of times, eventually my skill in it goes up, therefore my role playing knowledge of the skill has increased because I've trained myself in it.

3.) RPG Menu
- I guess we'll agree to disagree on this point.... it seems that the new menus are very much RPG-ish. I don't understand where you think the new menus are boring. Have you not read the multitude of articles describing them in detail, or what?

4.) Perks
- How is perks taking away from it being an RPG? Fallout WAS an RPG. A perk is the same as learning a new attack, spell, etc as in Warcraft, or Final Fantasy, or any other RPG for that matter, only they are not called "perks" in the other games.

I really believe they are doing an awesome job with Skyrim, and I truly believe you, me, and every other person in this forum are going to sink hundreds of hours into this game. I honestly believe this game is going to be a masterpiece. I hope your fears are laid to rest when you finally get to play the game. :)

I'm fairly certain its the other way around for Fallout fans, FO 3's similarity to OB and all, and FO has attributes, called SPECIAL. Try doing a little reading before inciting hatred between the fans of the series.

And you're saying Fallout is bad? I think you should draw more comparisons to ME2 if complaining about streamlining, great game but it's barely an RPG.

Whereas my feeling on ME2 (versus 1) was that... yeah, the story was a bit weaker, but some of the "RPG elements" (you know, the important stuff - the dialogue & decisionmaking) were stronger than the first game.

Combat system, inventory management? Meh, those aren't the key part of "RPG".

I never liked the fallout skill system. Somehow, killing supermutants and getting experiience can raise your lockpick skill? It made much more sense in oblivion how you had to raise each stat individually.

I have a feeling he ran out of complaints about DA2 on the BW forums and came over here to find a new target to complain about.

Don't worry there will be plenty of robots and supermutants for everyone. :teehee:

SPECIAL are the attributes in Fallout. Sheesh....

Don't forget Ghouls. Its ghouls! Religious ghouls in rockets trying to find a new home. Don't you laugh at me... :hehe:

No attributes

" Effect of Attributes have been folded into skill perks and Magicka, Health, Stamina."
"Strength, stamina, and magic, which Howard says will still trickle down into the same character buckets they did when you were managing more than double that many."
perks

Oblivion had these, they just svcked.

I'm sensing a Troll but regardless Skyrim isn't a Fallout copy. The only thing they are bringing from that is the Random Encounters that's grouped with the Radiant AI and the Perks which Oblivion had them too they were just automatic.

Fallout 3 didn't have Attributes? Oh that's right, they're called SPECIAL stats

Whatever you're smoking, I want it. You train your skills EXACTLY like you would in Oblivion, dude. Only difference is that, this time around, ALL your skills contribute to your leveling.

I want an RPG menu, not simple and boring. I want to think and make decisions, that's what a good RPG does.

Spreadsheets aren't what defines roleplaying, in spite of what certain hardcoe RPG [censored] believe. Roleplaying is about having the freedom to do what you want in the world, to live your character to the fullest. Has nothing to do with menues. If anything, "simple and boring" menues, as you put it, actually promotes roleplaying because that's what the player will be focusing on - not studying charts with a calculator in-hand.

Yeah I guess, it's just I very rarely play RPGs without having an inventory system, I never played ME1 so don't know the full extent of improvements while I have heard about them , but while it had less non-compulsory RPG elements it still had considerable improvements and was still a great game overall, some things, such as the combat got much a needed overhaul in sacrifice for things such as Inventory, which... I dunno it's not that it's not a good system to have it just doesn't feel like it's needed in ME just the way I want all of Skyrim's improvements but if that mean sacrificing Birthsigns and Classes, so be it I barely liked those systems anyway.

Well, didn't this thread go to hell in a handbasket.

Most of you know perfectly well that accusing others of trolling can earn you warn. *flexes the Ban-claw* People often do that to try and shut someone down. If you feel there is a problem, use the report button, that is what it is there for. :stare:
