blocking with one handed weapon?

Not sure if this has been mentioned but i was under the impression you could only block with duel handed and shields, but in this screen the pc appears to be putting one hand over the other and angling the blade inwards as to be blocking.

I thought that was either a 2hander or was the beginning of some sort of power attack stabbing move.

Is that some weird battle axe the thing on the left has??

You can block with weapon and shield, two-handed weapons, dual wielded weapons, and one-handed weapons, so long as your second hand is free of any spells, etc. when you try and block with the one-handed weapon.

And yes I would agree that the pic is either the block position with a longsword, or its the beginning of a power/finishing move on the staggered Draugr directly in front of the Nord.

it would be cool if medium weapons could be wielded either one or two handed.

them draugr do look pretty amazing (Y)
the weapon the PC is using doesn't quite look like a long sword but it seams a very awkward blocking position tbh

Not sure if this has been mentioned...

It has.

did you notice that in the last pic the nord warrior is wielding what we know is a single handed sword (seen in other screens and video) as a two hander or half and a hand sword? which means bastard swords are in!

No... it's just a two handed variation of a longsword. These are commonly know as 'claymores' in the TES universe.

Claymores typically have different textures, this sword has the same texture of the longsword in the pictures we have seen before.

Oh wait, no. I was wrong. It's only the blocking animation for a single handed longsword.

I'd like to see blocking handled in a way similar to Mount and Blade had. You had to anticipate whether the attack was an overhead, left or right swing. And if you have to block in the correct direction to not get hit.

It actually looks a lot like the block/parry I was taught in an aikidou class. His hands are too high up and too far from his body to make good use of his weight, but it is a fantasy game and they probably thought it looked cooler like that.

Since you can't block with a spell in one hand does that mean there is another effect if you hold (spell + sword) together?

Like a temporary enchantment on your sword?
