I keep getting constant crashing like every 10 min! I'm pretty sure my load order is fine and all the dirty esps have been cleaned. My crashes usually happen on fast travel and when entering new areas/buildings.
Does anyone here have any tips?

The two first possibilities that occur to me:
  • Giskaard's mods do not play well with others. He says so himself. Try removing all of his mods, including the CURP files, do a clean save, and see if your performance is any better. I myself have all of his mods in a completely separate install via mTES (or whatever it is called).
  • You have some performance killing mods in great abundance: Better Cities, loads of ULs, FCOM, All Natural, Blood and Mud - all these together might just be overloading your pc. Perhaps on fast travel, loading up everything it has in front of it is just killing your pc? Have you checked your RAM usage? Have you tried removing some of the big heavy mods and seeing if anything improves?
On a side note, yours is the first modlist I've seen in ages that contains Wrye Morph. How's that working for you?

Many things.

One, do you use BOSS?
If, you do... *spank* for not reading the log.
If you don't, *spank*.

Your problems can be most likely fixed by reading the boss log.
If not, here are some suggestions.

  • Perhaps you are using too many mods, and is in need of LAA (a memory patcher).
  • Also, CURP is not wyre bash friendly. OMG, Kvatch Aftermath/Rising, Elder Council and so on, have... modifications on them that prevent friendliness with Bashed patch. Best remove these and all mods that have been made by the author (sadly).
  • Do you really need CM partners AND Companion share and recruit? (HoD maybe?)
  • Symphony of violence is known to cause bugs.
  • Tamriel Travelers.. is this really needed?
  • Ren's Guard overhaul can be buggy at times.
  • Wyre Morph is still experimental I think.


I think the best advice to you is to reduce the amount of active mods you have running. Having a stable game with few mods is much better than an unstable one with many mods.

Thanks! I didn't know that Giskaard's mods had problems. I have applied the 4gb patch and osr tweaks.
My specs are:

I had constant crashing a while back, and the issue was having too many files in the Data folder. Yes, too many files, even inactive ESPs/ESMs and BSAs, will cause constant crashing. If you open Bash and check the bottom right there should be two numbers, "x / x". The first is active mods, the second is total files in the folder. If the second number is over 400, or close to it, try using Bash's auto-ghost feature which will append a suffix to inactive files so the game doesn't see them (take note that neither will OBMM if you use it, but it's easy to de-ghost in Bash anyway). If you right-click in a spot in the window that isn't on a specific mod, the auto-ghost option should be in the menu that comes up.

Just suggesting this because I had never heard about it before and it happened to me last week. My crashing was very quickly after I loaded the game, though, so I'm guessing your issue is something different. Worth a shot though.

I remember reading a log about crashes related to drawing back the bow on certain sound cards (i'm trying to find it now =/).
It was a element in a list of suggestions, if it works for you, great! :)
I do think that "known to cause bugs" was a bit brash though ;)

If anything it reduces their active mod list :P

Yeah, haven't heard about it being buggy either and I've used it for ages w/o issues.

Anyway, I'd recommend cutting down the mod list severely so you get a stable game - and then go from there slowly.

Some things that I've found that do a world of good (and have nothing to do with mods):

Defrag your hard drive. ALL of them. I two drives - Oblivion is on E:, and C: is mostly for Windows. I recently defragged C: and found that it was at 21% overall and 44% for files! :blush2:

Blow your case out. Dust and stuff can make your components (like the video card) overheat, causing crashes. The more graphics-heavy mods you use, the greater the strain on the CPU, and the more heat it produces.

Where are you SM OOO and MMM Compatiblity Patches or is it done by ini now with SM ..

Crashes when entering area's/building's..Nvidia card 1) if so try finding stable drivers and 2) make sure your Oblivion.ini iShadowMapResolution is set to 1024 some nvidia card have problem when to set to default 256..

else try using one the fcom spawn rates plugin to reduce the npc/creature to see if that helps..else remove giskard's stuff..

Number of files is 241 so I'm guessing that's not it.
I do have Creative Alchemy enabled on oblivion, does anyone know if that causes problems?

Disabled it, and I think it gave me a small fps boost in cities. Played for about 10 min, fast traveled to bruma, no problem. Got my horse and horse armor, entered the IC talos district and it crashed.

Well I am using FCOM so that's not a problem.
I'll try and start disabling OBSE plugins to see if thats the problem.

Hasn't been an issue for me, and it's necessary in my case anyway. Without it, all I get from the game are the music tracks. All effect sounds are dead silent.

Turns out I had both the original and the steam version of the OBSE dll. Deleted the steam one. Didn't help crashes though.

It appears that the crashes only happen in cities/buildings. Because I played for about an hour now doing nothing but killing random stuff in the wilderness with no crashes.

Disabled DEP on Oblivion and OBSE, started a new game. Problem? Everytime I try and enter the IC the game crashes. I can go to every other city with no problem but the IC gives me major problems.

You have a lot of mods that affect the IC in various ways. Thievery, Kragenir's, Ruined Tail's Tale, Thieves Arsenal, and The Elder Council all affect the IC for sure, and you are running several other large quest mods that I don't know much about. The problem with big quest mods is that they can interact with each other in unexpected (and unwanted) ways, since they may add or edit things anywhere in Cyrodiil. You could try deactivating one quest mod at a time and see if that fixed the issue. This is all assuming you intend to keep Better Cities, but try deactivating that first because if the crashes are being caused by a conflict that has nothing to do with Better Cities, it should be a lot easier to track down.

Arg... I can't find the problem! Could it be one of the OBSE plugins? I removed OBGE already but it didn't help. I know that all my quest mods aren't the source of the problem because I had these mods in several load orders throughout time and they worked perfectly.

I actually managed to get a reproducible crash in the imperial city from trying to load the waterfront district, so, while frustrating, it provided an opportunity to find out what made it stop. Switching back to my oblivion.exe before using the 4 gb patch removed the crash.

I narrowed down my crash a bit. The crash only happens in the talos district and the arcane district...
And yes I am using the 4GB patch.
