My work..

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:39 am

Army uses up all of my time now so I rarely get a chance to follow Bethesda game forums. Unfortunately I did read a nasty topic about me this morning. I really do not care if people uploaded my work to .rar files for sharing but that didn't mean a go for uploading files to public sites. The only member I gave permission to is Psymon (if he is still here, hello!!) But after seeing how people bash me for not uploading my new work makes thing the opposite. By the way, everyone is uploading outdated work from ATP 2.0...so you might want to reconsider until you actually have the latest files, yes? To finish things here, if people want to upload whatever they want from me fine but know I have no part in any future work from here on out.

Its always a sad thing to see a modder go, especially one of your caliber. I remember enjoying ATAP 2.0 back when I used to play Oblivion. Well sir, if you really decided to move on, I bid you goodluck with your future endeavors.

I only use ATPv1 (came back to Oblvion after the ranting battle) but I'd like to thank you for the awesome work you gave us.
And for those who blamed you :obliviongate:

I have always wanted to try your work. Saw screen shots and thought WOW. How does one go about getting a full version of your mods?

Thank you for stopping by ,good luck with the Army.

Sorry to hear that, Amp. It is the internet, mind you. ;) By which, I don't mean to say that it's OK for people to be like that - it isn't - but it's certainly par for the course, online. :(

Whatever you decide to do, I'll continue to respect your rights therein, However, if there's any chance I can (with the one try, only) persuade you to disregard all that stuff, for what I believe it to be (i.e., irrelevant as ever), well... this is me trying. :D Please?

And... done. I'll leave it to you, as it is and as it should be,

And if this means you're not going to do an ATP 3.0 (so to speak)? Your work will be missed. Seriously - it's the best by far, for what it covers. Still, whatever seems right, for whatever reasons... is. No-one has the right to dispute that.

All the best, and thanks for that which you've done, even if you end up deciding for absolute certain not to do any more. :tops:

It's always disappointing to hear how some people end up disparaging mods or even the modders who provide work to the community without any remuneration for their efforts.

All I can say is that there are hundreds here who consider your work top-notch. In my case I only download a couple of the ATP2 packages before they disappeared and that work of yours (Gold Coast and Colovian Highlands) provides, without any reservations, the absolute best replacers for those textures.

It may be worth considering, as well, that to the extent that any harsh feelings have been directed towards you by those who feel "deprived" by not having access to all your work that may reflect how much those individuals do love your work, truly appreciate what you have produced, and were eager to see you return. In my case, I did post a comment on the previous thread in sarcastic faux-anger at those who started the thread (for the thread title which created hope that your works were now available again). That comment was meant to be humorous, but one can never tell how things are interpreted. If anyone felt hurt by any comment I've ever made on the forums, I sincerely apologize. Those of us that don't have the skills that AmpolX and the many master modders on these forums have are truly dependent on all of you for creating an Oblivion that is still worth playing.

Best of luck to you AmpolX.

AmpoIX, please know that those comments were by a few people who have only recently joined the community. By far the majority knew that you were busy and were patiently waiting for you to finish the new textures. Psymon is still around and was one of those who was not going to permit your work to be uploaded and distributed. If we had seen someone upload your work without permission, we would have reported those files and asked them to be removed. We have had to do this recently with some of Arthmoor's work.

So please don't let the immature rantings of a minority dissuade you from persuing your hobby as time permits. I have never had the opportunity to try your textures and would welcome it, but real life kicks in and we need to take care of things. So if you have decided to leave us, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours.

Oh man, the internet. We need it, we love it, but it can also hurt us with our own work. I like your mods, you're a precious member of this community and I respect your decision. I honestly hope that you won't leave for good, most people here do know how to apreciate your work and those few that don't, well they'd better learn. Best of luck man!

I can really understand where you are coming from here, AmpolX. I just took a quick review of that topic and the behavior of most of the people in there on the last page (including a few people who have been around for a while) was truly shameful.

See what happens when you get pushy, community? You try so hard to get the mods you want that you end up pushing away the people who created it. Perhaps a cursory trip to the dictionary for a looking up of the word "patience" is in order? :stare:

Not the first time this happened, and it won't be the last. Part of me does feel that AmpolX deserves to punish us for treating his work with such disrespect, but by the same token, it's always sad to lose good modding talent.

Well, I do recall that that particular thread was closed with the denouement that we should wait for official uploads from you, AmpolX. Everyone here respects your work, and are glad you made an official statement. Sad to see you go, but one never knows, Skyrim is just around the corner ;)

Good luck for the future. :)

So are you going to officially upload your latest, or are you asking Psymon to do it on your behalf?

...after seeing how people bash me for not uploading my new work...
Yep, people who make things are evil and nasty for not always sharing them on the timescale other people demand. People who make nothing are the wronged victims for not recieving what they believe they deserve when they want it. Happens all the time.

What is worth considering however is that on the whole, this community does a pretty good job of self-policing itself. Not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but way better than most.

Anyway, I for one would always be happy to see more work by you.

I don't understand what the issue is. Some people really wanted AmpolX's textures and towards the end of that thread started talking about sharing what they could. All of these comments read like AmpolX was horribly wronged just because some people wanted his textures. Where was he "bashed" for not uploading his work? It all seemed pretty good-natured to me. Honestly to me it seems like the real sadness here is that AmpolX sees negativity in what was just a bunch of people wanting to enjoy his work. Maybe I'm missing something.

EDIT: I'm not trying to be a contrarian jerk here, it just seems like a lot of high drama in Internet land...

The insult was a bunch of people discussing releasing his work on their own without his permission. Something that, as modders, we very much frown upon and if it were you work being piece mealed out by players cause "hey I really want it but this guy wont give it to me so you do it instead cause we decided it was cool" would put you in a sour mood too.

We love you Ampol. :hugs: Some of us still respect the authors wishes. Hope to see you around from time to time. :foodndrink: real life permitting.

I thought they were discussing sharing it amongst themselves (something he approves of in his post)? I don't remember anyone intending to upload everything to a public site, and only Psymon could have done that anyway.

Still, AmpolX mentions a "nasty topic" about him and refers to bashing--I don't understand this.

I just feel like something positive ("AmpolX made nice textures! I want to experience his wonderful work!") has been twisted into a negative interpretation, and somehow now we have "nasty topics and bashing" that never really existed in the first place.

The last thread turned unpleasant. Let's not let this one go there, too. Trying too hard to anolyze exactly who insulted who and exactly how the insult was actually intended or received -- that kind of discussion never clears anything up.

AmpolX, thanks for dropping in. Sorry your feelings got hurt. You always did great work. All the best in the army.

Palidoo, read the whole thread, then. It was unpleasant enough to be closed by a moderator. Why rehash such things in a new thread?

I did read the thread, and I fail to see what was so unpleasant about it. It was a pretty rational discussion about interpretations of AmpolX's wishes and the rights and priveleges of mod authors with regard to distribution of their work. I see no nastiness or bashing.

AmpolX started this thread by referring to events that as far as I can tell didn't really happen. I'm trying to understand what was so egregious. Hell, I'd like to know just for the sake of my own skin in the future lest I unintentionally anger someone by being enthusiastic about their work.

I think we're done here. Mod-drama threads never end well, and any drama aside, we don't allow "hello/goodbye" threads, which this would fall under.

Ampolx, sorry you feel you don't want to mod anymore, but by and large this is a good community. Hopefully you'll rethink in time, but if not, thanks for your work. :)
