Incredible improved performance after using Oblivion Ini Edi

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 6:11 am

Hi guys,I opened this topic just to let everyone who has performance issues know about this mod.Is not really a mod,but a little program hosted [src="http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionUtilities.Detail&id=45"]HERE[/url which suggests which settings to change to gain a lot of performance on a multicore system(nowdays I think everyone has a dual core at least). After I applied the changes the program suggested,my game has become really faster.Of course I am using Streamline and OSR as well. Here are my pc specs:
QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz
Ati Radeon HD 2600 XT 512mb(I know this video card must be changed before skyrim :D)
3gb RAM DDR2(I'll switch to ddr3 probably)
OS:Win7 Ultimate 32bit SP1

Also I am using 24x Edge-Detect AA and I have unpacked the meshes bsa.Now I am able to play a smooth Oblivion.I hope that someone can solve his performance issues by using this program.Forgot to say that I am using QTPIII+Corepc's Vibrant Textures+Detailed Terrain.

Um, as far as I know there's really no way for Oblivion's engine to take advantage of multi-core CPUs. Could you describe what changes were made that improved performance? I'm just really skeptical about this, I prefer to edit the ini by myself in notepad and I don't see how this program by itself would improve anything.

The best I've seen *anyone* provide evidence of (and that includes me! :)) is utilisation of 1.5 cores. That is, add up the usage at any given time, and if it goes over 150% of one core, between however many.... I'll eat my hat. And I don't even have a hat!

I downloaded it just to check it out, and pretty much all of the entries in the ini it changes are things I've already tried in the past (threaded this and that, etc.) and got pretty much no results with. I mean, if someone could show evidence of a definite improvement, I'd love to hear what should be changed in the ini, but this program definitely doesn't do anything that hasn't been tried in the past.

Well I used the program because it suggested to increase these settings,I had already changed these settings in the past:) I think that unpacking the meshes made the game smoother.I am also using QTP3 FULL+Vibrant+Detailed Terrain and I have not installed the pyffled meshes for Vanilla/QTP3.I think you have done these changes palidoo, did you?

PyFFI, on the other hand, is well documented for actually doing something. Good move. :)

Try http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/, for an almost up-to-date guide, for just about everything mod-related. I suspect it will serve you better than... whatever/whoever has been guiding you 'til now. ;)

I forgot to say "I didn't install Vanilla and QTPIII pyffled meshes YET":P I just wanted to open this topic to discuss about Oblivion Performance. But I think that we can't do anything more apart from what we've said.Let's hope for a OPTIMIZED Creation Engine:D

I do have PyFFI'd meshes, not sure what you mean by unpacked. I unpacked them for that process but they ended up back in the bsa at the end.

You're using full QTP3 with a 512mb video card? Do you get frequent crashes outdoors?

Ah, just because I was getting frequent crashes with my vram usage hitting 1200mb, and I'm on a 1gb video card. Of course I have a lot of other stuff adding to that as well, but switching to QTP3 Redimized eliminated the crashing.
