Cloth Map

Hello guys!

I made a thread yesterday about what kind of stuff the CE should contain and someone in the thread had this really good idea which i am actually quite enthousiastic about.
Shinovakhiin came with this simple but very original dea of a Cloth Map, That's right a Cloth map. Something completly different then all those pesky paper maps and at the same time it is a very nice collector's item and it fit's really well in the world of Skyrim. I thought this idea should get some more attention :)

erm, I don't use physical maps  Only reason I would is to write notes on it, but you can't really do that on cloth (not too erasable)

I'd rather have a decent rule book/strategy guide instead of some flimsy pamphlet. Think like the old Baldur's Gate manuals  Of course I also think that should be standard issue and not solely for a CE.

I'm old enough to remember when it was not uncommon to get a cloth map in a game

Ultima VI is one that sticks in the memory

I'd rather have a paper map, you get far more detail. I remember picking up NWN shortly after getting Morrowind and comparing the Morrowind map to the NWN handkerchief was unfair to both of them (I think my Morrowind map was embarrassed simply being in the same room). Cloth maps also tend to be smaller which doesn't help with the detail level.

Oh, definitely. I'd love it.
Too bad they don't do stuff like that anymore... Mass market, and all...

I've heard that when they made Redguard, they personally burned the edges of some of the maps or manuals or boxes or something? to give it that special 'worn' aesthetic.

This! The NWN mapkin was sorry indeed. I have a number of better cloth maps tucked away for Might and Magic and perhaps other games, but the map of Vvarendfell that came with Morrowind definitely set the gold standard for game world maps. I refer to it constantly when I play, tattered as it is.

Hell yeah! I love when they put something in the CE that looks like it's actually from the game world. If they included a cloth map, I would literally hang it up on my wall.

Supposedly, cloth maps are extremely expensive. I'd be happy with a fairly good quality map made from that plasticy paper stuff.

But I will try to not look at it for a long time if it has the same detail as the MW one. I remember when I first played Oblivion (never played an open world RPG before) it was so cool occasionally finding a town hidden in the wilderness (even if it turned out they were pretty pointless and lame) after exploring for ages.

Let's not forget that we are talking about a Collector's edtion. It doesn't really need to have a functionality but just a collector's item. I think it is rather badass to have a not so very detailed cloth map painted with black ink showing some places and a mountain with some sort of dragon flying around it. It adds immersion to the mysterious world of Skyrim

I'd love a paper map for the normal version, and a cloth map for the Collectors Edition.

I think a cloth map would be incredible. That is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. I am all for it--that is a collector's item that would be in high demand, I think.

You mean we will get a low quality napkin that will fall apart when people touch it?
How about a somewhat harder paper map... Of the same material as a table top game board is made of?
