Should I get the Xbox 360 or the PS3 version?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 9:37 pm

I have both the X-box 360 and the PS3 consoles and many games for both of them. I prefer playing games on the PS3 because I like the dual shock 3 controller better than the Xbox controller since it is less bulky and the PS3 console runs quieter than the noisy Xbox. Xbox also make you pay for the Xbox live membership and any additional content while the PS3 does not. The PS3 also has 3D capability which looks great on my 3D TV with any 3D games, while the Xbox doesn't do 3D games. Skyrim would be awesome if they could do it in 3D or support 3D. I also have both the Xbox Kinect and the PS3 Move which are both fun to use. The Move has more potential to be able to be used with a game like Skyrim than the Kinect. I know that they are not developing it for the Move currently but its possible that they could do so with an update. The PS3 also has blu-ray discs so it would be unlikely that you would need to change discs and they can put more content on the disc. So, I was leaning towards getting a PS3 version of the game for all these reasons. However I know that they are developing the game primarily with the Xbox platform and so the PS3 version may have more bugs when they take the Xbox version and convert it to PS3. Also I have the concern that they may not have as much subsequent downloadable content for the PS3 system as they will for the Xbox, since the PS3 version of Oblivion did not have as much downloadable content as the Xbox version. If that is the case then I may have to go with the Xbox version of the game. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well if you prefer the PS3 controller, get it on PS3. Not really a huge difference between the two consoles.

I'm personally getting all versions in time, but I'm getting for Xbox first, then pc. I'm kinda glad the graphics will be the same for both...

Oh, and later I'll get it for PS3

Whatever the lead development platform is, get it for that, also dlc is more likely to be on Xbox as much as I hate to say it :(

I play on pc, but I always notice reviews of multiplatform games seem to favor the xbox, over and over again I see this. I assume because it easier to develop for.

This. PS3 may have better loading times and run more smoothly. Graphical fidelity will be pretty much identical.

I prefer the Xbox 360 controller (I absolutely hate the PS3 one), so I'll be getting it for the 360.

That's only because I'm used to the 360, though.

As irishboy said, really just go with whichever controller feels more natural to you.

Xbox was the first system I got that was my own. The PS2 was my older brothers, so in terms of video games, I grew up playing Xbox with my friends...It's just habit for me.

Edit: Although if you want to get DLC earliest and have the most stable game, go with the 360 version. That's the easier system to develop for, so that version is likely to be stable, and get first-access to DLC.

So factor in those two things when you choose.

Between the two I would go with PS3.

I prefer PS3 as a console as well, however judging by Oblivion... The PS3 had many more bugs, and much fewer DLC if any. Could be different for Skyrim, who knows. But I'm going with 360 for now.

Someone already said it, the main issue to consider, is which controller you really feel more comfortable with.

That said, Bethesda has a flawless track record, of delivering a better experience on the Xbox360, despite the PS3's hardware advantage. After all, it's not necessarily what you're plugging the code into, so much as the code itself.

Xbox 360 will likely run better, but if you like the PS3 controler better, kind of have to ask yourself "can i forgive a few hicups or should i deal with the larger controler". As far as 3D i doubt it since its being developed on the Xbox first.

Depends. If you like the PS3 controller and have an old (read: noisy) version 360 then you might as well go for PS3. 3D and motion peripherals are a moot point. DLC is a wildcard, but on the bright side any exclusivity 360 gets will probably be timed anyway.

Personally for me I find the 360 controller to have far better ergonomics: weight, button/stick placement, triggers/bumpers, man hand sized. IMO PS3 only beats out the 360 controller for button/stick quality and d-pad. I have one of the newer xbox versions and it runs super quiet so it's a non-issue for me. Also, I don't won a PS3 so the it's really a no brainer :celebration: I decided to buy the Halo: Reach special edition 360 rather than buy a PS3 to supplement my 360.
