After oblivion, this. Is it good or worse?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:07 am

I'm not trying to start a flame war, or rant on the game or anything.

But. why is the game getting more and more simpler? Why dumb it down even more? The devs have the ability and option to fully utilize amazingly powerful gaming PCs with DX11. Why not make an amazing game on PC and port it to consoles? There is no need to port the game from consoles to PC. Porting from PCs to consoles has no disadvantages, yet consoles to PCs does. Why do the Devs not make an elder scrolls game of their dreams? Complex, compelling game play and mechanics. Amazing graphics. Why limit it 2005 hardware? Look at Battlefield 3, its going to fully utilize gaming PCs with more players in multiplayer, full DX11, amazing graphics. And yet it will still deliver an amazing game on consoles. Why can't this be the same with Skyrim? Skyrim had the option of being an amazing game, but now I will probably at most be just a good game.

Now even the way it is, Skyrim will be good I think. But only a fraction of as good as it could of been. And no mods won't fix it 100%. Sure they can improve it. But not make it what it could of been. I've been a Elder Scrolls fan for over a decade. And with each interview, my hope for this game gets worse and worse. So why Pete? Why do you limit yourselves? You could make just as many, if not even more sales. But have a much more amazing game.

Now I don't know if this is a day one buy for me, or wait till it hits the bargain bins. I'm really on the fritz. It's like " OMG ELDER SCROLLS!!!" But then " Oh, it's just another simplified console port :/". I really don't know if I even want to support this. I think Bethesda has really gone down hill. And only cares about the money now, and not about the quality of the games. I feel as though Bethesda/Zenimax is going down the Activision route. And I bet Skyrim is going to cost $60. But you say " Oh! Battlefield 3 is going to be $60!" Yes that's true, but its being published by EA. And we all know the EA is almost just like Activsion just not as bad.

And console boys, you truly don't know what games are capable of. You think you got it best on consoles, but truly. An amazing PC game fully loved and developed by Devs can be in a whole 'nother league then a console game. No hate, just the truth. It played on solely consoles pretty much for like 15 years. So I don't hate consoles, heck I even like them. But they don't even touch what PCs are capable.

Streamlining =/= Dumbing the game down (BGS is just merely getting rid of silly and redundant mechanics that never added effectively to the TES experience)

BGS is a multiplatform developer. They would be foolish to cater to the PC community (hardcoe I might add), considering they are a minority of their entire fan base. DICE has always been a PC game developer at heart (their largest fan base is probably PC still), and BF has always been better on PC (can't have 64 players on console servers).

While I would love to have full DX11 support as much as the next guy (yes I'm a PC gamer with a high-end rig), I understand BGS needs to make a quality experience across all platforms. Heck, I'm just glad Skyrim will have some DX11 support. Don't worry though, Fallout 4 and the next TES title will likely have full DX11 support (shaders, tessellation, etc) as the next generation of consoles will likely be out by then.

Part of what made Oblivion and Fallout 3 so successful was the ease of accessibly of the overall game, yet the ability to go extraordinarily deep at the same time. In other words, they werent meant to be "hardcoe" yet had the ability to be.

Why deviate from whats worked? Bethesda is going to put out a killer game, just be proud that more and more people will get to enjoy it

I bought Portal 2 earlier this week, and it doesn't support DX11 at all, but I still enjoy the game greatly. Taking Portal 2 as an example, do you think it was "dumbed down" because it's a non-DX11 game and that Valve become the new Activision?
Streamlining =/= Dumbing the game down

Indeed.

It's not being dumbed down. All the functionality is still there. They are removing the redundant things.

280 perks is a huge step up in complexity and variation among characters. the magic system now has spell effect combinations. they're simplifying some things, but adding much cooler forms of complexity.

Don't buy it if you feel that way. But that's just your opinion, and it's the opinion of a minority, because when you are happy with the information you don't normally have a rant at the developer. For every one of you there is 100 that look forward to what a great game it will be, and understand that Bethesda doesn't have unlimited resources to throw at a single game that's been in the making for nearly 5 years. Ok??

They are not truly streamlining they are dumbing down. Have a skill go from affect two or three to being just that one skill and having only three of them is dumbdown. And DX11 isn't the only problem. Even with new consoles the games will be even more simpler.

Alrighty then, lets make your prophecy come true.

You have completely missed my point,

If that's the case, then you didn't have any point.
