Dragon Cult?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:02 pm

In The GamesRadar preview (and likely a few others), a new enemy type is mentioned: the "Dragon Priest." In this scenario, the Priest seems to be guarding the Dragon Shout hieroglyphics, and raises from his tomb when the PC disturbs the wall.

This got me thinking- if Daedra have worshippers all over Tamriel, what about the Dragons? Was this Dragon Priest a human cultist who worships Alduin? A half-man, half-dragon hybrid? Or just a boss level Conjurer like the adepts in Oblivion?

And why was he entombed? Is he an undead dragon worshiper? Or is there some sort of Mythic Dawn-style group of Dragon-sympathizers we'll need to fight off? (Dragon Dawn, maybe? haha)

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a group of humans following Alduin. In fiction, whenever a baddie wants to om nom on the world, there's typically a group of crazies following him.

I'd love this priest just to raise creepily out of the coffin.

Yeah, I'm assuming the "dragon priest" was a high level Draugr of some kind. I wouldn't be surprised if there were dragon cult(s) in the series though. Would make for an interesting story arch.

In a preview they said he is a Draugr, so yeah, an undead Dragon Priest. And whats a Dragon Priest? No one knows, but since Todd especifically said Bleak Falls is a temple of dragon worship...that means this thread is a bit redundant.

Yep and there better be special warriors that serve Alduin. Most of the time with an antagonist like a world destroyer, special enemies have special gear.

Nevermind that in at least every TES since Morrowind, the "standard main plot formula" that cannot be deviated from requires a Big Bad and a cult following/supporting/working alongside them complete with agents who randomly attack the player character in cities. (And boy, won't we all be surprised when the 6th House Agents er the Mythic Dawn Assassins I mean the Dragon Cult Thugs attack us in some random town? :P )

I'd like there to be humanoid dragons as well as the 10 playable species following the dragons. Sort of with the dragonmen being the footsoldiers for the dragons, and the humans being the spies, kinda like the mythic dawn cult in oblivion.

Even though you're spot-on, I'd still play the heck out of Skyrim even if the MQ involved nothing more than opening a chest containing a severed hand perpetually flipping me off.

I'm sure there will be followers of Akatosh accidentally helping Alduin, due to their ignorance of the gods, and people who want to see the world destroyed (especially the altmer).

Yeah I thought I remembered hearing Todd say people used to worship dragons. So I guess the real questions is if the 'cult' is going to play a bigger role in the story, or if it is just there to have zombie priests make learning shouts more of a pain. :spotted owl:

Dragon Cult? Try Imperial Cult. They only worship Akatosh. And Tiber Septim...

I think there has to be some form of Crazy Dragon worshippers that try to steal Dragon Eggs to eat or something like that.

Dragon Cults are a must have on my check list.

I hope there won't be an 'dragon cult' getting a place in the story as important as in morrowind or oblivion, as they tend to lean towards the evil for the sake of evil in their presentation.

In morrowind the cult got many followers because of very nationalistic dummer.
In oblivion the mythic dawn wanted to create a paradise for themselves.

Why would there be a cult working towards the end of the world? And while nirn will get recreated after it's destruction, The cult won't really see the fruits of that, being dead and all.
