Why are so many people upset about not having spears II

Well? Why are people dissapointed? Personally I don't really mind that there are no spears in the game. Other thread reached post limit. This is post 2. Discuss away!

Well personally... I love spears IRL... I think they're a very interesting weapon for someone like me... who favors... deliberate strikes and who has good upper body strength.

As a result... I've always had a sentimental attachment to spears... and I play chars with them whenever possible. (so long as they are competitive)

Spears... just feel like something I'd fight with.

I like options, and they could be balanced properly. So I don't see a reason not to include them, other than needing new animations.

Probably the commonest weapon used by soldiers pre-gunpowder so it seems odd to have a world without them
Thematically appropriate for some characters like hunters
Not just spears I miss. I'd like throwing weapons and crossbows back too

.........why is it hard to understand that some people actually liked spears?

That "they were bugged In morrowind" isn't a valid excuse 2 games later?

That we've lost more playstyles and there is no variations in weapons, everything is swing swing swing or shoot an arrow until something dies with regards to weapons..

That its an option a freedom, a "because you didnt use it doesn't mean I didn't" factor.

Why is there another thread on this anyway.

Because nothing compares to killing a werewolf with a spear from the back of your horse.

I agree with all of this. The fact that they didn't work well in MW is no longer valid for an excuse, we lost a lot of the individual weapon types, even though most of them could be saved by being folded into other skills. And the fact that this thread is pointless. If you can't understand why some people like spears after 200 posts on why or why not people liked them than I say you should stop trying to figure it out. You just can't.

Then we'd better hope for horses AND werewolves, huh? Or it's gonna be zero for three.
If we got those two things, even without spears, I'd be giddy!

Spears are just so great to fight with, longer reach for stabbing and for just smacking some1 in the head, spears owned the battlefield until the advent of the longbow, and even then they were hard pressed to give em up, how could you NOT want spears and yes they were messed up in Morrowind but they got that fixed if fallout nv is any indication.

Is there really any justifiable reason for their exclusion?

I mean, any and all balance issues can be fixed with just minor tweaking. For example, when I did personal patches for Morrowind, I made spears much more brittle than they were, overall Speed, things like that. All of which took maybe an hour, including testing.

The main reason I assumed Spears weren't in Oblivion, was because of their skill system. They reduced everything to Blade and Blunt, honestly, I think we're lucky axes were even included, I think only by virtue that they animate like a mace. Spears actually had a viable animation. Every time I used a magic staff, I couldn't help but think that, this is perfectly acceptable with a spear.

Why wouldn't they appear in Skyrim? Lack of time/ideas really. Considering their revamped, combat, I could see some difficulties in making a spear feel as visceral as the rest. But I could also see an unlimited potential for badassery with just about every creature, short of the Wraiths, shown so far.

I really hope somehow they make the cut, and Todd is just messing with our emotions right now, lol.

I don't think "so many" people are upset. Yes, there are some who are very vocal about it. But it's not a huge number.

(Random example - not many Spear mods have been made for Oblivion. Guess there wasn't actually that much demand.)

edit: ...also, I don't see a spear thread in the last couple days of posts. Where are all the threads that the OP (who's theoretically a 1-week member) is reacting to? Kind of suspicious.....

That's like saying "Better Graphics" For Morrowind doesn't have a huge demand.

It only takes one really good mod, to speak for ten-thousand mediocre ones.

yes todd said they would be in game, but not used in the way in which we spear junkies want to use them as thrown weapons, if we get them with a decent graphical use as in stabbing, and bashing, blocking without looking gay like it did in morrowind I will be happy, if not I just wont use them, but either way I wont crucify Todd for it ( just weep a little ).

I cannot possibly fathom an Argonian wielding anything but a spear. Any and every other weapon just feels unnatural in their hands.

Exactly. That's why it was so weird for me to play an Argonian in Oblivion.

And, we want spers because it makes sense for them to be in the game. Spears have been one of the longest used weapons in history, and a warrior culture without them is a bit hard to imagine. It's one of those small detals that makes the world seem less real. Plus, they have the potential to be super, super awesome. nyone who has seen 300 knows how.

That's yout opinion. What if they removed a feature you were really waiting for? What if they removed, idk, dragons or something. You would be hella pissed right? Maybe some of us wanted to create a fantasy character and play him out like we imagined. And it scares me that Bethesda said they did not add spears due to "Time contraints". Same thing they said about why werewolves were not added in oblivion. If this is the case in Skyrim, I will not even buy it at all.
