Saving delay

I'm getting about a 5 second delay when I save. Every time I quicksave, the Oblivion pauses for about 4 - 5 seconds and then continues. There hasn't been any other problems with saves besides that. I'll list my mods, maybe someone knows of a mod that causes this.

Pauses increase as the gamesave size gets larger. Oblivion has been like that since it shipped because saving is not performed as a background process in this game (something Bethesda addressed in Fallout 3). What I mean by that is when you save your game in Oblivion, the game stops everything that it was doing at the time to save and resumes once it is done.

The more mods you have, the more data the game needs to keep track of. The more data the game needs to track, the larger the save file becomes. The larger the save file, the longer it takes for the game to create it.

Ergo, heavy load order (particularly an FCOM setup) = noticeable pauses when saving.

What is the current size of the saves the game is generating? I would estimate around 20Mb or so? Try checking for bloating in Bash.

Well, I adjusted my load order, and started a new game and the freeze is gone (as of the 15 minutes I played the new start).

My saves are about 2.5MB.

My saves are currently at around ~18 MB. Saves do take a few seconds to register (I have a LO with 254 mods + 120 or so merged mods) on my hardware (i7 930, Intel SSD, Nvidia 480 GTX). I think of it as a minor annoyance really, and am gald to be reminded that another save is performed before a crash makes all my efforts go to waste :brokencomputer:

As in 25,000 Kb in Bash? If yes, that's 25 Mb, not 2.5.

As expected, starting a new game made the problem go away, but it will not last. The game is keeping track of a huge amount of data in those saves, and they get bigger and bigger and bigger the longer you play because of all the new data that is constantly needing to be added to them (persistent reference locations, actor locations, item locations, spawn locations, flora harvests, global variables, GMST settings, the list goes on and on and on). Do not expect a new game to permanently fix this, it will always come back unless you axe half your load order. It's not even a major problem, so my recommendation is simply to ignore it.

Lol. Not, at the time of that writing, my save size was 2.5MB. But you are right, as I progress further into Oblivion, the save sizes grow, and the pauses return (though at this time there is about a 1 second freeze). Right now, my saves are 2.6MB. They'll grow, especially since I think I am going to add Reneer's Interior Mod to my list, and that mod heavily uses PlaceAtMe.

188 mods in my game, largest save is 11MB. The delay in saving is par for the course.

Expect a lot more than a few second freezes then :D. PlaceAtMe is a killer.

Something worth mentioning is, the longer your Respawn Timer is set to, the faster your saves will grow (and the quicker the Save Lag will increase).

Your save records all the data for cells that have not yet respawned, and if you have Respawn set for 10 days, there will be more data saved than if you have Respawn set for 1 day.
