From http://news.slashdot.org/story/11/04/14/233225/Blender-257-Released-mdash-and-Its-Easy-To-Use: "Past Blender releases, as capable as they were, had learning curves somewhere between straight up and down and 90 degrees. The release of Blender 2.57 changes all that. No longer are simple features 'non discoverable.' It has more or less a completely redesigned user interface that is clean, sensible and newbie friendly (hey, I'm using it!). It has a handy tab interface for Actions/Properties such as Render, Scene, World and Object etc. Plus, it's fast and CPU friendly. I'm running the official Blender standalone binary on Fedora 14, with 2GB RAM , Radeon X1300 (free drivers) and a cheap CPU Intel duel e2200. No more more slow GUI, no more 100% unexplained CPU, just great stuff. Kudos to all who made this possible."

Gee that's nice :) About time. Woooooooot. And hopefully no more bugs.

Now maybe we can get nifscripts updated for it...

Edit: Uh oh, the AutoCad DXF addon still has a exclamation by it..... oh well..... one of these days.

Nifscripts isnt compataible with the 2.5.x Blender versions, so if you really want ot mod for oblivion with blender you'll still need the 2.4.9 version of blender

Lol, I'm unable to imagine the described curve!

I haven't had problems with 2.49, I hope that the transfer to the new version and getting used to new interface won't be too hard. Once nifscripts gets updated of course.

Nice. I never really managed to get into 3D modelling with Blender despite previous experience with AutoCAD and Rhino because I just couldn't get past the interface, so perhaps this might make it more accessible to me. :)

Yes that's correct for the time being. I figured that out when I made my newspaper model, made some nice renders, then figured out I had to export it to a different format to revert back to 2.49b, then add my collision properties and re-export it as a nif.

2.5 does have a lot of nice features. One thing I noticed\bugged me at the time, was that more real-estate screen space was a bit needed for 1024x768 resolution, but that kind-of goes with the new ui-redesign. Don't have that nag now that I am working with a new monitor, at 1920x1080.

Hopefully a nifscripts update isn't too far off... I hope, I hope..

There's no any need to export things to different format. As there's possible to save things in blend file and open it in version 2.49 - most basics things work well this way, though some aren't transfer-able at all (like all kinds of animations/morphs, etc.).

I had it set up to do a 60 rotation animation save as png script attached to it, that must have been why. But ya, have had some problems opening 2.5x files with 2.49b.

That must have been why I did it that way. Get rid of the animation first and make a copy save will probably fix that.

So, it requires a different version of Python than, say, Wrye Bash?

If so, there might be issues there, yes? Not for everyone, I mean, but... for me! :(

edit: The reason I'm even asking is because the interface is a major reason I never got into Blender before, and this sounds more promising in that department.

You shouldn't have any problem with blender, wrye bash, or nifscripts(only2.49atm)

I have blender 2.49b, 2.5.7, and wryebash running right now. Plus I still have the other betas installed also.
don't worry too much.

Blender doesn't require any Python at all. That's NifScripts which require it.
And while there are no any Nifscripts available for latest version of Blender yet, so currently the only option for you is to either wait for new NifScripts or use version 2.49 of Blender.
