distracting enemies with bait/stone

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:26 am

say if a bunch of trolls are blocking your path and you are low level or don't have the right gear to fight them do you think it would be cool if you could pick up a stone or stick and throw it to another direction or get meat and to the same to get their distraction so you can make a quick get away

Reminds me of Far Cry, where you could throw a rock to lure the enemy into a trap. Would be cool to implement though. Could work for some interesting stealth gameplay.

I am sure that if a couple of trolls are grouped together, a few sticks or stones thrown near them, or rather not near them, will hardly make any difference to them. Generally speaking aren't trolls supposed to be dumb? Perhaps not in TES lore?

No, I understand what you mean though, and I agree it would be amazing to implement.

Working on animals/monsters = less likely.
On humans = more likely.

I'm hoping distractions of some sort are worked into Illusion magic or a Sneak perk.

I want this for npcs, mostly guards. I want to make them move from their post and search the area a little, enough for me to sneak inside. In Thief we had noise arrows, maybe throwing little objects would work fine.

I hope Beth is thinking about right now because it is a brilliant idea.

I remember in Deus Ex, the sound of tossing certain heavy objects such as crates would often attract enemies' attention. The training mission even made a point of having you do this in order to navigate a maze of patrolling guards, and yet relatively few games have used (let alone built upon) this system since.

Good luck implementing it without complications, though. I can already see the droves of "I dropped a pair of pants and now every guard in town is running after me" threads popping up.

Well since in Skyrim NPC will react on dropped by player items in various ways (at last as PR says about enhanced Radiant AI behavior) adding features http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0K4xkCRLYI and ten year old games, will not hard for experienced in game developing hundred members of Skyrim Dev Team they have all what they need direct access to engine and hardcoded functions, experience and tools, they only have one limitation Time there is six months to release and they still have bugged pre-alpha build.

Of course. And another use for telekinesis is always a good idea.

If they actually fall for such tricks like throwing a rock to distract guards.... Oh lord only the thought of it makes it stupid. No thank you

That would be fine if it could work. I usually get a low level conjure creature spell as soon as I can because they're great for distracting too.

For those role-playing it evil, I remember that in Manhunt you could cut a guys head off and throw it to distract/upset his buddies.

i always wanted a distraction ability after playing splinter cell, which splinter cell got me into stealthness. they gave you the ability to whistle and get your enemy where you wanted and then you could silently take out your enemy. it was very effective. in splinter cell: conviction they added to this but took away the whistling by adding a gadget that you could attach to a wall that could play a song to distract enemies and either explode it or draw them near then stealth take them out.
WELL all i'm saying is that i would like distraction abilities especially for stealth characters!

I think it's a great idea. It would bring in more strategic elements to gameplay, and that's always a plus in my book.

I always found it a bit unrealistic when I happened to shoot an arrow to have it miss, and bounce violently off the stone wall a few feet away from an NPC, and have them not bat an eye.

I would love to use bows to this effect as well (distractions). Sentient beings being more leery of distractions, but a useful additional option (with potential unwanted consequences in a risk vs reward depending on the scenario) for stealthers throughout.

Good idea. maybe also theres could be a chance to be detected when doing it if your characters skills are low.

The only creature that should be distracted by a stick when you throw it is a dog.
