About the Unofficial patch.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:18 am

Hello. I just had a long break from oblivion after beating the main quest and exploring every single place there is, and decided it was about time i started on Shivering Isles.

Before i stopped i used the Unofficial Oblivion Patch version 2.2.3 and i am wondering if i install the newest version, will it cause conflicts and or/bugs to my savegame?

Thanks in advance.

Latest - installed in the following order....

1. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296

2. If you have Shivering Isles installed - you also need this one http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739

3. If you have any DLCs (or the GOTY version of Oblivion) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9969

4. And lastly install http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710 - up to date and maintained by Arthmoor, correcting previously un-discovered problems with the above (and requires those to be installed first (some of the original files are still needed) this will overwrite corrected files).

Whether it will cause problems with your save games - I dont think so, you could always do the clean save routine first but I dont think its going to be necessary.

Yep that order.

Clean save = Un-install the old mod. Load the game, and go in-doors somewhere (put your feet up in a pub), press T and wait 24 hours, do that 4 times for four days worth. Then save.

Install new versions of the mod needing a clean save (as mentioned though its not usually required for UOPs), then play on.

Won't the game/save crash if i load a save that used to have a mod that is now removed?

It never has for me, anything a mod changes about the vanilla game, when removed, just reverts to the vanilla game content. Caveat; I have seen on one rare occasion with OBSE scripted mods (and the resulting OBSE save) things can get a little more complicated but mostly its a safe procedure.

Okay, i just tried. I uninstalled the old UOP, loaded my save, it said that some files it had been using was removed and asked if i still wanted to load, i chose yes, and the loadingscreen appeared... and i never got further. Tried three times. So i assume i just just install the new one now then?

EDIT: Didn't get further as in, the game completely froze.

UOP 2.2.3? Wow, that is old. :)

You didn't really need to remove it, just install 3.2.0 over top. Do the same when you install the UOP Supplemental, just install over top, overwrite if it asks. So go ahead and install the new one and it should fix you up.

Aye, this is the gist of it, assuming no unforeseen complications. You shouldn't even need to worry about that clean save you made, but instead just load the most recent save make prior to un-installing the old UOP version.

Oh, can we assume you know the proper esp "load-order" (as opposed to install-order) for the various esps involved?

I have no idea what you are talking about, but i installed everything now and it works fine, i've been checking certain areas and items and i can see no bugs or problems so far, and no error messages.

I didn't think you would need a clean save, glad it turned out okay.

Oh boy you have been out of it for a while, hmm methinks you need a refresher course in just about everything - Fortunately we have a forum whirlwind who occasionally pops in and updates her site http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/ use the side menus to open up loads of pages in sequence and just about any question you can ask is answered there.

Reference Load order, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 is brilliant at managing this aspect for you.

You may not need it if you only have the unofficial patches, but you will need load order management if you play with other mods, for sure. I can't recommend not playing with mods, so I can't recommend not having Wrye Bash, BOSS, and, optionally, OBMM. I would consider those to be the starting suite for playing with mods in Oblivion. And, trust me, if you've only been playing vanilla+patches, you'll go nuts for everything all the mods have to offer. A quick google search (or maybe forum search) should find some recommendation lists with the better/more popular mods as a starting point. You'll never play a vanilla elder scrolls game again...

But, the UOP's might load in the correct order naturally, so you may not need load order management if that's all you're running (to strictly answer your question). I don't know for sure.

We are looking at your posts without a crystal ball - Posting your load order helps on these forums so people have a clue as to what to advise, anyone can say "Help please", which begs the question "with what?"

Me suggesting a clean save routine in response to your original post was a bit of an un-necessary stab in the dark just in case - as it turned out I was correct in thinking it would not be necessary, assisting with at that time all I knew was you had an ancient UOP. Any more mods which could complicate the mix we are currently clueless about.

Have a nosy around the stickied posts on this forum too at the top here http://www.gamesas.com/?showforum=25 in particular the FAQ

I've always prefered playing as Vanilla as possbile, i only use mods that fix stuff. :) Only non-fix mods i use are Spell Tomes and Slof's robe trader, cause spell tomes are cool and i hate the vanilla robes. :P

And yes, i had a peek at the text documents, and every patch thing i got had their load order fixed.

And thanks alt3rn1ty , i will remember that in the future. Thanks to all who replied! Imma gonna play now. *waves*

You're welcome :)

Its a very rare day this. Usually when someone breezes in with a cry for help and the forum eventually gets all the information needed to decypher what any problem is - Their load order consists of everything shiny found on nexus and installed all at once within a few hours, evidently having not read a single readme ...

Your post with just the UOP (and a couple more) is a bit of a shock to the system :D

I need a cup of tea and a lie down after this to get over it. :turned:
