Beeter Cities conflicts with Elsweyr Anequina?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:23 am

I recently installed the latest version of Better Cities. Just as I was crossing from Blackwood into Elsweyr, I crashed. This was happening when I had Better Cities installed beforehand as well. It seems to happen always right around the border. Are there any known conflicts between the two mods? This has been going on for quite some time.

There are no conflicts. Iliana deliberately didn't develop the area around the borders for this precise reason.

Nothing to do with BC, BC doesn't edit borders. I'll bet there are other mods you had installed beforehand as well, so why pick on Better Cities?

You've probably got a busted spawn point. Do you crash in the same spot every single time? Have you tried entering Elsweyr from the Faregyl road, for instance?

Are you using the version of Anequina labeled as the December 2010 update? I've had similar problems with even getting anywhere near the borders with that and had to revert back to November 2010. There isn't supposed to be a content difference, but December's update packed a BSA which may have something wrong inside it.

Yup, I'm using the January version. I'll download the november version and try again.

Edit: Might you know where I could find the November version? I've searched everywhere with no luck.

Hmm, Iliana might've taken it down. Most modders don't keep old versions online, especially for files as big as Elsweyr.

I have the November version archived, but it's WAY too big to email.

I would highly advise against having anything to do with Megaupload. The site is infested with virus-ridden ads that sometimes even get past adblock plus.

There is a separate download of patches for the mod accessed by a link in the description, the patches might fix the CTD? I downloaded the latest version last night and I have not installed it yet.

http://www.fileplanet.com/ is a good alternative to megaupload.

I have the December version. For me saving and quitting the game right before I get close to that border generally allows me to get past it when I log back in. I walk slowly. I think it's some sort of loading issue.

Then that would most likely mean missing resources. Best to be on the lookout for WTF mesh markers or bright magenta textures now, I would think. If you start seeing some, the best course of action after that would be to report a packaging error to Iliana so she can get the BSA in order.

The funny thing is that this only happens when I have Better Cities loaded. I was having these issues, turned off Better Cities and had no trouble entering Elsweyr. I re-attempted using Better Cities within the last few days and BAM! CTDs - especially around Alabaster.

Elsweyr has always seemed to have a bunch of strange different internal problems that would hit people (well, me at least) sporadically in different areas. I don't know enough about the internals of the mod to say what is going on, and Iliana seems to have been somewhat driven off so she's not likely to be looking at it any time soon.

this is as far as I can tell a bug of the game engine...some cells edits ( landscape edits) seem to have impact of other cells at completely different locations...I noticed FPS slow downs and even land tears caused by that....problem is that there seem to be no understandable logical system behind this... for me it looks like it occours more often at heavy modded locations...for example a very few people reported extremely FPS drop downs at Anvil docks when using BBC together with the tamriel heightmaps....this area is of course not touched by my heightmap as BBC does not edit any of the my regions...
someone reported land tears around Kvatch when using my old Valenwood heightmap allthough this area wasn't touched by it...removing some cell edits far out in the Abecean Sea fixed this...very strange.....
for Elsweyr....I noticed such problems there as well especially massive slow downs at the River niben....again not touched by Ilianas mod.....

Well in my case if I use the December 2010 update I can't approach anything within uGridsDistantCount cells of Elsweyr. Yes, I actually went through the hassle of lowering that value and trying to get closer several times until I got it down to 1 and STILL could not enter the region from any side, any cell. Revert back to November 2010, all is well at full distance. Which leads me to think there's a busted LOD somewhere but it's impossible to find when any configuration short of dropping the BSA won't let you get close enough to narrow it down.
