Rare Game

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:57 am

I want to hunt a monster at night and then realize halfway through the quest that the monster is actually hunting ME. And it is not just one...oh dear I have to find shelter, my legs are tired and my arms grow numb. If they find me now I am bound to meet my fate.

Having some of them stalk you would be awesome (With there own camouflage and silent steps).

this is great idea!! I'm close to mastering 3d modeling and have been programming for 25+ years. I promise this will be my first mod!!! Hunt the white deer with golden horns! Hunt the spectral mudcrab! Hunt the 2 eyed troll!! Hunt the flightless dragon! Hunt the rabid werewolf!! Thnks so much for the inspiration. There's not a snowball's chance in oblivion that this will make the actual game but holy cow what a wild mod idea! Excited!!

Just a unicorn please. and not "hey walk into those trees right over there and just slaughter it, it wont run or anything." It should be really fast and dangerous and should be hidden on top of a mountain or able to jump from peak to peak or fly or shoot laser beams from its eyes...

I would rather have them at a certain spot and maybe at a certain time too.....having a %chance of finding them would get boring trying to find

Yet another wonderful entry from my chum Liu Bei. Take this :cake: You deserve it.

This reminds me a lot of RDR, and the legendary animals you had to track down. Hunting was one of my favorite parts in that game, and tracking down the legendary beasts was great fun.

I like the ideas you have Liu....maybe being able to mount them, or get trophies for each one. Maybe just a single achievement for finding them all. They should be rare, and a mixture of random, quest related, leveled, and conditional like you said. I dont want there to be too many though to the point it just seems like a novelty.

Maybe they appear after you have killed so many 'normal' version. For instance, say there is a 16 point massive 'legendary' buck that only appears once you have killed 50 or 100 regular deer. Thats not the greatest example, but you get the picture. Substitute 16 point buck with grizzly if that helps.

Good Thread.

A few sidequests from an NPC would be ace.

Huntsman Nord needs you to find a Great Riften Elk and collect it's pelt for him.
*A broad location of the Great Riften Elk has been marked on your map*

There, the animal walks in a set path (that is unbeknownst to you), circling around to repeat the same migratory pattern, stopping occasionally to graze. The only trace of the hunt you can find is it's hoof prints in the snow (all other animal foot prints should be disabled during a hunt as to give you a sense of tracking). You can sneak up on the animal but only as close as, say, fourty yards until it catches your scent. Then, instead of walking peacefully, it darts a long way down the set path and escapes. This way, hunting can only be accomplished through traditional means of bow & arrow (atleast if the prey is a solitary herbivore). If it's something like a brown bear or a frost troll, then things should be much different.

Huntsman Nord needs you to find a White Run Sabretooth Cat and collect it's pelt for him.
*A broad location of the White Run Sabretooth Cat has been marked on your map*

The hunt begins like before with the prey on a set path walking through the map, stopping occasionally to scavenge for easy food. But these animals frequently hide in caves and under the cover of snow. It is quite easy to loose their track and pass them by mistake. If this happens, you may soon realize that the prey is stalking you. If you can survive a suprise attack and fend off the voracious creature, you can resume the hunt as normal or, if you're lucky, kill it with swiftness and strip the prey of it's unique feature.

You have collected Blah Blah's pelt. Return to Huntsman Nord for your reward.
+5 moneys

Edit: Animals that move in groups, such as mammoths, should also be given different styled hunting quests. Maybe you already know their exact location (it most likely being obvious) in the middle of, say, The Pale. You just have to bring the beast down without facing the wrath of the herd.

Those are my ideas regarding quests that deal with hunting.

The Cake is a lie!

On topic I hope this is in because it was the biggest disappointment I had in Oblivion.

Yes. But I think they should all be included in the game disc and run around on uncharted paths but within certain regions if appropriate.

There should be giant goldfish that live in the underground water supply that connects all wells in the game and randomly bites off peoples heads when they go to get water.

:obliviongate:
I want to hunt a huge harmless creature that makes a trumpet noise and lives in herds, specifically because I want its defensive bony protrusions to make into keys for my grand piano, and once I get all 200 keys I will then play the TES theme song.
I also want a wild kajiit beast species with beautiful spots that I can hunt endlessly just to sell the pelts for luxurious scarves that only the most affluent people may buy.
There should also be a great creature in the seas that I can hunt on a great boat with a huge fishing spear, just so I can cut off its fat layers and sell for its oil to lubricate my piano strings, and remove its magical glands with healing properties.
There should also be a kind of bear that only eats leaves and has a white and black coat that you can remove and sell as stuffed animals.
One of the rare animals should be the fastest of all land creatures, and really hard to catch.

But then the animal rights people will come after me and try to kill me. :bolt:

I agree. I like the idea of rare hunting and crafting material. I really hope they have an extensive system for crafting and raw material gathering.

"Rare game" would be great, and extend my playtime significantly, especially if there is a lot of them (like 50 or so). It should be a real challenge if it's implemented, to the point where hunting them all is quite an accomplishment.

I think that they should be random, and conditional. and yes, i would want collecting them all to be Hircine's quest, and at the end receive some daedric artifact ("The Saviour's Hide" i would imagine.)

I would also like there be at least one super-rare fish if there was fishing, only catch able under certain conditions, in a certain place, but fishing hasn't even been confirmed so no use getting TOO into that.

Well, there's not too much to explain because this is all pretty self-explanatory.

I fear we may have to forgo hunting as a whole hobby in this game because the arrows are so much rarer.

Well it's good to know someone will make a mod for it if it's not in the game. Maybe in a few years when i get a half-decent computer i can play it :goodjob:

Well hunting rare game is often a "gentleman's game" by which i mean the rich often participate in finding "rare game" as it involves traveling and whatnot. I'm sure you would need to invest a lot of money in arrows to hunt down all, but that'd be part of the challenge.

Plus, it's not like there aren't other ways to hunt game in TES.

I'm sorry to resurrect and old topic but:
“It’s actually something we didn’t realise people wanted... we give people bows, you give them deers, they want to hunt. We didn’t realise that initially, so we’re trying to add that. It’s a common question... we’re trying to add more.”

This is a quote from a recent http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-8167-Bethesda--Skyrim-Will-Have-Mammoths;-Will-Show-at-E3.html and shows that they are holding a greater focus on hunting which could mean that ideas like these may be implemented.

I think "conditional" would be the best way to implement these. Random occurrences are a little too luck-based to me (or maybe the "luck" attribute could increase the chances if its in Skyrim?)

conditional are fun though, because you can set a mood and tone with each of these miniboss fights by having it really sunny, really stormy, etc.

Yes, and there should be a hunter's guild with quests related to these creatures.

That is quite a great idea there. Would love to see something like this. They should be quite challenging to track and/or kill and involve collecting rumors and information about them if you are specifically hunting them. Otherwise you might (rarely) stumble upon them by accident. Using their hides/horns/eyes/feathers/etc. to craft superior quality weapons and armor would make it even better.

Yes because you can:

want a trophy
want a reward after killing all of them
want it to be Hircine's quest
and want them to give you some kind of forgable weapon.
(and other, whatever that may be)
^ALL AT THE SAME TIME^

also you can want some creatures to be:

Random
conditional
level-scaled
and quest related
(other)
all at the same time.

It would be ridiculous of me to have you pick only one, so thanks for contributing to the poll... your vote didn't do anything.

I want a red Gyarados.

I'll second that. :)

I picked conditional setting, because i normally set off on specific tasks and like to continue until i finish, so if it was random i would probably just add in the rewards with the construction set, just like i wouldn't do a quest if it was random when i could accept it :)

I also said i'd like to make things out of the animals because if they have a rough shell or sharp fangs why wouldn't you make them into armor or weapons :), even if you have better items than what you make it would still be cool to show off your hunting ability and (if you made it yourself with a skill) your craftsmanship at the same time.
