Guys, I just found something interesting.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:54 am

Ok, so I recently got interested in what TES Daggerfall gameplay was like, so I looked it up on youtube. Sooner or later I found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2xa2r-0bTI&feature=related
if you skip to 3:13 and look at the thief's inventory, you should see a helmet with horns on it. Doesn't it look familiar? "Hint, look in the background of this forum" It's nothing amazing, just something I thought would interest you guys.

...? I thought it was always pretty clear that the dovahkiin helmet was also available in-game, as it also featured in a lot of screenshots..

EDIT: crap.. Nevermind, I didn't see the "daggerfall" there.. I just thought you were reffering to the trailer of Skyrim..

LOL right when he jumpped off that city wall here:

I was sure the daggerfall physics was gonna blast him upward... it always happened to me... It's hard to explain without showing you what i mean.

about the topic... I don't want to be rude to OP but that wasn't very interesting at all IMO. It would be something if they actually looked almost exactly alike, but they look pretty different. just two pretty basic horned helmets.

You seem to have misunderstood my post, did you even look at the first sentence and the youtube video? Basically I was just pointing out that the helmet the dk is wearing, seems to be inspired by daggerfall helmet/s.

I wouldn't say that... I would just say both Skyrim's and Daggerfall's helmets were inspired by a romanticized image of the vikings.

Both of them are probably inspired by viking helmets (whether those actually had horns is another topic)

yeah, it's not anything amazing, I was just watching the video and saw that helmet and thought, "Hey, that looks just like the Dovahkiins helmet...". I just found it interesting to see where they "seemingly" drew inspiration for Skyrim, from previous games.

Edit: well, yeah you guys are right. They probably just made both helmets with a viking theme in mind. :P

Still! Isn't the daggerfall gameplay interesting? It's cool to see how far games have progressed.

I was just playing daggerfall 3 minutes ago. And yes, helmets with horns are pretty common. I recommend the game, it's pretty awesome. Actually it's my favorite game ever...

yeah I had that happen many times. I think I once got stuck on the battlements cos my health was too low to survive the fall! I sort of had to aim for a rooftop.

Daggerfall's the most content packed elder scrolls to date. And it's free.

Yes, but the graphics and gameplay have greatly improved since it's release. I wasn't saying it was a bad game, I just find it interesting seeing how far TES have come.

That feeling of "interesting how far TES has come" made me go back to Arena and Daggerfall. :turned:

Daggerfall's quests randomly generated, which makes up for much more of them. Although they're not THAT interesting, that's still more content. And the map Morrowind + expansions take place is 00,1% of daggerfall's size.

Just for those of you who might not know it: Vikings did not have horns on their helmets. I think (and hope) that most people around here already knew that though.

Also, that helmet isn't even remotely similar to the Dovahkiin helmet. Take off the horns and they won't resemble eachother at all.

Agreed. The helmet shown in that Daggerfall video is completely closed.
