The Northern Island

This is a quick piece I'm writing. I'm currently thinking of making it into a mod for morrowind. This is only a brief description of the beginning of the island and what it is used for. The story takes a dramatic twist towards the end, not written on this version, however with this twist is where you can bring your character into the story.

"During the late years of the 2nd era, an island north-east of the province of Morrowind is discovered by the Morrowind natives, the Dunmer. The island was a small and undiscovered piece of land out of the way of any trading routes put in place by the Imperial Navy. The Dunmer lived on the island, slowly populating it with Dunmer looking for a new life from Morrowind, and it wasn't until the middle of the 3rd era that a Dunmer by the name of Mevel, a master alchemist, discovered a new type of flower. The flower had never been seen in any other province and was even rare on this island. He learned that the flower had the ability to create the most potent poison that could kill if the fluid even made it into your body through even your sweat glands, however if used with the correct ingredients it could make a medicine that could cure many deadly diseases.

Mevel was astonished by his discovery and began breeding the flowers in a lab on the far point of the island. The island only had large civilizations on the southern half of the island where a small docking area was built. Mevel's lab was also his home. He very rarely left to go to the southern coast unless he needed supplies. He wanted to bring the information of the flowers to his people but decided against it. He knew that some of his people were greedy and would possibly sell the flower or give the information to the Imperials for a price. The island would be overrun by researchers and his studies would be forfeit.

Mevel spent most of his life dedicated to his work until tragically the once safe and lovely island took a turn in a very dangerous direction. A large group of Dark Elves known as, Beast Trainers," immigrated from Morrowind to the island hoping for a new location to work. They were disappointed by the low amount of new wild life on the island, especially by the lack of vicious and powerful creatures. Most of the native animals were quiet, peaceful, and small: definitely not fit for combat. The trainers then had the fiercest animals from Morrowind sent to the island via trade galleons. They had them unloaded on the unoccupied western coast.

Along with the trainers came magic dominated scientists. They used their magic and knowledge to create mutants. The mutants were studied for ages until the trainers decided to allow field study. They allowed the mutants into the mainland where they watched them breed, hunt, battle one another, and select their specific habitats. After a short time however the beasts came out of the control of the trainers even killing off many of the field runners. The remaining trainers then left to live in small outposts in the mainland where they would be safe but could still study their creations. The island natives became aware of new and vicious beats roaming the island and started building walls and protective mechanisms around all their major cities that lined the whole of the southern coast.

Mevel was forced to hire a few island natives to build defenses around his lab before the animals attacked and ruined both his years of studies and killed him. The natives were intrigued when he told them of his discovery years before and offered to join him and continue his work. Mevel being old and tired agreed and took the three men upon himself as his assistance. Sadly only a year after taking them on, Mevel lost his life. He went out into the wild to search for other possible plant life that may have changed or morphed due to the mutants thriving there and was attacked by one of them. His assistance left the lab in search and found him lying in the top of a tree. On his person was a note explaining the unfortunate attack and that fact that he wished for them to continue his work and only to release their studies when the time was right."

I am thinking of making this into a mod for morrowind. Whether or not I can finish this on my own or if I'll even attempt it on my own is questionable. The island is quite large in size and has a quite vivid history, in my mind at least. I will post the rest of the history for the story in a bit. Would like some ideas, suggestions, thoughts, and maybe ideas for the mod itself.

The font is fairly funky, and messed up somehow in the first paragraph of the story.

I'll be straight up with you about your story: Everything that happens is too convenient. He discovers a flower nobody knows about that can kill anyone who touches it pretty much, so is he killing people with it to find out how it works? No, he decides to make medicine to cure people with it. Mevel has essentially learned to use radiation to kill cancer cells instead of using it to kill people while he's been in isolation without any way whatsoever of knowing what his cures will actually do. Then some guys drop a ton of dangerous critters off on the island for a not-so-great reason and voila! Enemies to plow through in your mod. And then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to fill the same role. Then he conveniently builds a fort for you to fight through, and conveniently writes a note about how he died while a Ninja Turtle is eating his leg.

Also you should remember who your audience is. Everyone who comes to this board for the Elder Scrolls knows who the Dunmer are and where they are from, so it isn't necessary to tell them.

I tried covering as much as possible. As for the idea of the rare breed of flower. He was one of the first people to move to the island and was very interested in the native plants. The settling dunmer weren't paying much attention to some of the members like him because he was gone so often. When he ended up leaving he gave no notice to the others because they were worried about building towns and what not. He tests the flower with different types of plants he had with him. Both poisonous and helpful ones. He then tests the creations on the animals that live in the area. Meaning the animals before the trainers. He finds the poison potent but only when mixed with the right things, Otherwise the flower on its own is quite useless. He keeps this a secret from the public out of fear that the flower could be used for the poison by assassins. He works with the medicines to cure wounded animals and keeps this a secret in case it has a bad influence on people.

The dunmer don't end up exploring the majority of the island because of its size. It's in no way near the size of vvardenfall but it's still very large. They explore a good portion of it but are forced back into their already settled area to escape the creatures coming into the land via the trainers. Convenient? No not really. This is a new land only known about by a few dunmer. Some of the settlers were already in groups when they left Morrowind, therefore they sent word back to their groups to come to the island. It's a new land with new possibilities. Of course their going to come here and exploit the land for their needs.

With Mevel's death, he left his fortified lab. When he is injured he is near death and already has parchment and quill with ink so he writes a note in the case that his assistance search for him. He uses his remaining strength to climb the tree so that his corpse isn't drug away. You don't come into the game at this time however. The island I'm describing now isn't the island you'll be on in the mod, meaning it won't be the same.

As for the fortifications. I'm not saying huge stone forts with huge inner cells to explore. I'm saying more a home, maybe a mansion style home with wooden piked walls that surround the home. The city however would have more powerful defenses to the wild but this man having little time to do anything other than study, and with only the three helpers has to build meager defenses.

Hope this clears a few things up? Remember this is still a rough draft.

I copied and pasted it from Word and I can't get the words to look right. It isn't hard to read -.- Seriously if it is you may need glasses.

By the way I will have this updated soon. I haven't had any time to finish the story.

I didn't say it was physically impossible to read. I just refuse to really read anything if the font is different.
