Let's talk Daedra

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:42 pm

I'm making a mod for Morrowind that adds some new "artifacts" to the game to represent the other Daedra not already in it. These aren't artifacts like the Sanguine Rose and Oghma Infinium, but ones of my own creation. I've been reading http://www.imperial-library.info/book_daedra/ in order to get a better idea about each Daedra's characteristics in order to make artifacts most befitting their characters (for example, Meridia's is a weapon that works great against undead enemies), but I'm stuck on what to do for Peryite, Sanguine, and Vaernima. For Peryite

I was thinking a Command effect, but because he's a dragon I'm tempted by Fire Damage. For the other two, I'm drawing blanks. Does anyone have more specific sources for these three, or perhaps the texts of anything they say in other ES games? Or, if you feel creative, some ideas for items?

That talks mostly about in-game artifacts, and it doesn't even mention those three...

I was thinking of something with Demoralize Creature/Human for Vaernima (to simulate nightmares), but Sanguine still eludes me. I'm under the impression that he's basically the daedra of partying...is that too general for him?

Peryite could be a belt that does a Command spell. Sanguine could be a robe that boosts your personality; you'd be a hit at parties. ;)

Vaernima's could be an artifact that (her being the Prince of Dreams and Omens) would paralyze the target ("sleep") and fortify your intelligence by a large amount. It's as if you're picking through their brain as they "sleep". If only it actually could make them sleep.

Dunno if this is possible, but a Peryite weapon would be a weapon that has an effect similar to the 'ra' (resetactors) command, combined with paralyze. You know, he orders things, right? With this, everything is where it should be and will stay there for some time.

Peryite is associated with pestilence, so a weapon that inflicts random diseases (long-lasting Drain Attribute effects) on the target would fit.

I assume your Meridian weapon is doing Shock damage and a Light effect as well as Turn Undead? A script that puts a Light (and maybe Shock Shield) effect on the player when the weapon is equipped (and removes it when unequipped) would be good too.

Sanguine is not just the 'god of partying', but the personification of unbridled lust and fevered excess. A ring or amulet that enhances all your senses and massively boosts your metabolism (to the point that it becomes dangerous) would fit. A significant Fortify Attribute effect for every attribute (except maybe Willpower), combined with a constant-effect 1 damage per second would represent this quite well. You feel wonderful (faster, stronger, more insightful and more charming), but your heart is racing, you're hyperventilating and your whole body is practically ripping itself apart. Can you resist its addictive lure and remember to take the damn thing off before it kills you?

For Vaernima, how about a hood or veil that, when worn, puts the wearer into a fugue state in which they experience something akin to an out of body experience? Massive Drain effects for all physical attributes, combined with Night-Eye, a very long-ranged Detect Life and a big Fortify Magicka (and maybe Spell Absorption as well)?
