Suggestion about robes

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:54 pm

I was just noticing the plain robes in Oblivion and though "hell, even if they didn't change the models that much, I think it would be nice to have some with no sleeves, some with short sleeves, and some asymetrical with only one sleeve"

Skyrim seems to be headed the right way for clothing and armor looking awesomely badass, I'm just wondering if you think it would be nice to have this kind of variety in robes

As long as the robes don't get too crazy and start turning into anime crap.... Then I'll be happy ;)

Keep anime away from meh TES.

Well those could be awesome too, I didn't even think about them. I thought more about the basic robes we already have, but simply cut out the sleeves, so that your arms are exposed (damn I really svck at explaining it lol)

I plan on making a Breton witch lady at some point so I would love to see some robes without sleeves.

And I plan on making my nord warrior look a bit like the Dovahkiin in the background, but with no helmet, and with a robe under that armor. That's why I though it would look nice if it didn't have sleeves lol

Any examples of this in pictures or something that anyone could find would be great.

I think robes will look dull until they can flow, fold, and flap like real ones. But that's probably not going to happen this time around.

Don't have to be anything from in game, just pictures of this from anywhere people may know of. Having a hard time picturing it in a way that makes me think it will look good.

WOW, i just realised there was a Dovakiin in the backround of these forum pages and I've been posting/reading for months now... I thought "what dovakiin" and then i unconcentrated my eyes, and there he was...

Anyway, I hope armour doesn't actually look like that (with a pauldron missing). My guess is that left and right pauldrons are back. Btw, who would like an option to equip things cosmetically? (clothing you see when playing, but the same stats as your armour)

You're thinking of coats, not robes.

He's thinking of a cloak, in which case he'd be right.

I think robes / magicians clothes are just as important as armor. A true pure magic user will only wear enchanted robes so technically it is his armor. I think a good selection of robes will also make a few more try a pure magic user as opposed to just going with an armor type.

Oh wait, sorry, I replied to the wrong person. You're right. A robe without sleevs is jsut that, a sleevless robe, or maybe could be called a dress. A cape would be like an open longcoat sort of thing without sleeves.

What if the game doesn't let you wear robes together with armor? We have not been told if we can or not, and it's probably safer not to go into too much detail in planning your character when you're not yet sure if you'll actually be able to make the character you have in mind.

Anyway, I hope armour doesn't actually look like that (with a pauldron missing). My guess is that left and right pauldrons are back. Btw, who would like an option to equip things cosmetically? (clothing you see when playing, but the same stats as your armour)

It's quite possible that the pauldron on only one side thing is just the way that armor is designed, but if it is, you can rest assured knowing that not all armors are like that. It's also possible that left and right pauldrons are back, I guess, but right now, we simply don't know.

And back onto the topc of robes, I'd like to see more variety in robes in general, because in Oblivion, they felt a little generic, like they were just the same design with different colors, now, I don't really mind the design from Oblivion for basic robes, but I'd like to see more room for customization in robe wearing characters, and sleeveless robes or short sleeved robes would be a good place to start. Also, while I'd argued that not allowing wearing armor with shirts and pants makes sense for the sake of game balance, I'd like to be able to wear robes with shirts and pants or armor. That way, unarmored characters don't suffer from fewer enchantment slots than armored ones, and it removes the issue we had in Oblivion where even if I tried to make a "pure" mage, it would be better to wear pants and a shirt than a robe because all robes filled at least those two slots, meaning less room for enchantments.

I want to see robes with tight sleeves. The big, wizard-like ones in Oblivion drove me nuts. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=247707 looks pretty promising.
