Visible unequiped weapons

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:56 am

One thing that I think would be a good addition to the game would be if all your weapons appeared on the player when sheathed or put away. In Oblivion when You look at the character in 3rd person you'll see that when you equip a weapon the one you were currently using disappears. I always thought it would be better if all my weapons stayed sheathed on my body, Like when I play Oblivion I thought it would be better if my stealth character could have both his bow on his back and dagger at his side when they're put away.
I think one way of solving the problem of "what if I'm carrying a bunch of looted weapons to sell? I don't want them to appear on my back or sheath." would be perhaps only the weapons bound to the quick equip keys would be seen as your weapons, and maybe have it so that only 2 or 3 would be visible on the player. It would also be better for a duel swordsman to have both his swords on his sides or back instead of one, or a mage with their staff on their back and a dagger on the side, youget the idea.
Tell me what you think of this idea, I hope it's something they implement in the game.

It would definitely have to only be one weapon per animation slot, meaning one weapon on each side sheath, one bow, one quiver, one back sheath, and one shield. Even all of that would be pretty impressive to pull off, but I'd be for it if they could do it for sure. Beyond that though, any weapons in excess of that you are carrying in the menu I'm not so sure should show up. You'd look like a pincushion of weapons all clipping through each other... the clipping is a problem that might exist even with how many I mentioned was the max I'd like to see anyway.

Well yeah, that's what I said. What if to fix that they had it where the items you have bound to the number keys or d-pad would be seen as the player's weapons and all show up on his body, and also limit it to 2 or 3. I see what you mean by clipping issues though, bows and arrows on you back with a claymore there too would look kind of off. But if I'm using a sword with a sheath on the hip, it would be a nice look for the bow to stay on my back, not just the arrows. Again even just making it 2 things at a time would be better, it would make the characters look cooler imo.

I don't have particularly high hopes, but I brought a picture to the attention of the community earlier, where it appeared a Draugr Warrior had a Bow+Quiver on his back, whilst still holding a small hand-axe in his right arm. So it's not impossible...

Need a bag of holding.

Its already in dude. Atleast, some of the screens say so. Check out the characters in these:

http://skyrimguild.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/SkyrimTrailer12.jpg (victim has a visible big handle to some weapon on their waist, and has a barely visible dagger on their thigh right below it)

http://theelderscrollsskyrim.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/skyrim_conceptart_1.jpg (the reason i say this is because, firstly, they only chose a handful of concept art to show out of many. This tells us that they are confident with the content that is in this picture, and they wont be spammed with false-advertisemant accusations like they were with the Horse pic in Oblivion ad. Everything in this picture is confirmed.)

I'm not sure I really see it in the sneak attack pic, but your definitely right about that concept art. I never noticed he was carrying all that stuff until you showed me just now.

I always thought it would be a cool idea ever since I saw concept art. But I've always wondered.. If you have a Sword, a Shield unequipped, where would the Bow and Arrow Quiver be on your body?

... yet another feature in Witcher and Witcher 2 :) .. Although I must say, in Witcher 1 the placement of the swords (the daggers looked cool strapped to the leg), and the fact they had no sheaths, made it look awkward. In W2, they do have sheaths for back weapons, and no loner are crisscrossed, which looks really cool.

I agree with visible unequipped weapons, and maybe a bag of some sort. (Which some weapons can stay in your bag instead of sheathed)

But if I am carrying 16 weapons on me, they wont all fit on my body. What can I say I am a hoarder in TES games, my character always carries tons of stuff. lol

Im going to guess that it will be relative to Guild wars in that you will have equip-slots for your at-the-ready weapons, and then your average inventory.

I hope you're right, but the screens from GI have the character with the shield on the forearm (without weapons drawn). I'm really hoping the shield goes on the back.

Always wanted something like this. I think that how much we can carry normally should be greatly reduced, but items like magic bags that have room for objects much larger than themselves and/or pack animals (satchels on our horse, summon a scamp and make it carry things, etc.) should be made available. These weapons would not be ready to use by the player though, meaning they could not be on the so called "favorites" list that you can easily switch to during combat. Any items on that list should have to be sheathed on you or attached to a belt or strap of some sort on your body. I doubt we'd see this though, perhaps next time around.
