I've only ever tried Kvatch Rebuilt--but I like it enough to keep reusing it in new games, rather than trying another mod. Sometimes it has some unintentionally silly effects on my game, like the time the messenger NPC tracked my character several miles into a long-lost ruin from The Lost Spires...just to tell her that Kvatch needed flowers. Timing is everything, apparently. (And that's hardly KR's fault. Plus, it makes for an amusing anecdote.)
Still, the mod itself is well done, and I like the finished results. The lack of voice acting doesn't bug me, but that's a personal preference.
Whoa....what a coincidence! Lost Spires and Kvatch Rebuilt were the very first two quest mods I ever installed. They were installed more or less together. I worked 'em simultaneously. There I was, on assignment for the Archeology Guild, deep inside a supposedly heretofore undiscovered ruin complex. I'd been slowly working my way through subterranean passages for some time when I heard the sound of fighting ahead. Thinking I'd stumbled upon two or more creatures at odds over looting rights or some such, I crept forward for a better view. To my amazement, I found an armored warrior battling a host of ruin denizens. What's more, the fellow looked somewhat familiar. With some misgivings I rushed to his aid. Between the two of us, all foes eventually fell. At combat's end the warrior approached me and let it be known Kvatch needed further assistance. He then spun on his heals and raced off. I could hear his periodic encounters for some time.
Aye, it is an amusing anecdote, if somewhat immersion breaking. Gave me a good chuckle. Good times!
To add insult to injury, but a few minutes after that, while in the same "dungeon", I encountered my first incident of the a-bomb. Newb that I was at the time, I initially assumed it had something to do with those two quest mods interfering with each other. I was gonna delete all saves made in that dungeon, then wait to attempt it again until KR was finished. Luckily I had the sense to do a bit of research, which readily found the true cause of my graphics anomaly. I install OAF (Oblivion Animation Fixer), ran it on my current save, and all was well for the next few hundred hours.
