Race Specific Quests?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:24 am

I have never seen race specific quests in TES, noted I haven't played before Morrowind. I think that if they were able to include race specific quests (obviously not main story related) it would give a unique experience and give me all the more incentive to experience each race and what each race has to offer. Dunno, would you guys love to see that?

I don't think it would be so bad. The racism in Dragon Age did a pretty good job of breathing life into the world and changing the way you thought about your character. Don't get me wrong, that extreme of a system is definitely out of place in Elder Scrolls -- but I wouldn't mind one or two quests that might vary depending on your race. Making a quest impossible to take depending on your race would svck, but if they used that radiant quests to change it a little depending on what race you are would be pretty cool.

Also, Fallout 3 is definitely NOT something to go on. If it was, I'd be much more concerned about armour choices :P

I voted for Maybe. It's not very worthwhile to spend much time working on "wasted" content that only very few are going to see. It takes disc space too. It's too unlikely that everyone would play every race in the game.

Any race specific differences in quests are likely going to be done with the Radiant Story system. I guess there are some dialog changes here and there, but at least I don't expect anything else.

Love the idea. Run into someone of the same race (or with an interest in artifacts of your race, hell maybe a greedy so-and-so trying to get at some treasure that requires someone of your race for some reason...a locked door keyed to racial heritage, who knows) and get a quest only your race gets to do. Not like 10 quests would break the game.

Ehhhhh

Well at the very least I don't mind if some quests have different solutions/outcomes depending on your race, but some players might feel jipped if there are lots of race specific quests that they can't do

Racism very much does exist in the world of the elder scrolls, I remember getting lots of tongue lashings in Morrowind (my first experience with TES). But it doesn't have to be a bad experience in lines of quests and the like. It could be a way to further understand the race you are playing as and further the experience of immersion in the world itself. If I am going to play a Khajiit I want to know what it is like to be a Khajiit. Not everyone plays the game for this experience and I understand that and completely respect that difference in opinion and play style. Just sayin :P

yes, very much so, the game should be different depending on what kind of character you play. Some skill specific ones would be neat too, say if you're really skilled with blades you'd get different quests than someone who uses destruction.

Polls like this are the reason I hate polls in general.

The real question is:

Would you rather have 10 additional quests that all of your characters could complete, or 1 race-based quest for whatever race characer you currently have.

noooo the real question is what I stated. I never offered an alternative. If someone decides to vote and offer a possible alternative that is their prerogative.

If the radiant story system is capable of pulling this off then I would definitely be on board.

This.

Agreed,10 quests will not break the game.Someone did a thread on this months ago.Tried to find it but had no luck.It was mostly positive except for a few greedy people who didnt like the idea of missing out on 9 quests,............

No, it's not the real question at all cause no one waves a magic wand to create video game content. This is a typical "garbage in, garbage out" type poll.

I don't think that's a very good idea as it would limit the available content for most players. I think a better idea is offering a quest (or quests) that plays out very differently based on the player's race.

then don't comment, honestly if you can't have fun with the post and can't leave anything positive then don't bother. The point of the post was to have fun and inspire creative thoughts. My intentions were to provide a fun topic, tell me.. what are your intentions?

Oh snap,I just remembered something from the other thread I was refering to in my last post.A few of us came up with a great idea for a quest that involved all 10 races, and depending on which race your character is,your role was unique for this quest. So essentially it's the same quest but with slightly different objectives and outcomes.

Shoot,I forgot to add that we came up with this idea to counter the people who didnt want to miss out on any quests.Yes,the quest is a bit different depending on your race, but it's the same quest non the less.

A poll is to gather information about public opinion, not "inspire creative thoughts and have fun".

Maybe you should have made a regular thread related to race-based quests instead. Theoretically, if doesn't impinge on your own gameplay, EVERYONE would want EVERYTHING added to the game, making polls pointless.

I was thinking about it a bit more and I wouldn't mind seeing like maybe 1 race-specific quest per race that earns you a race-specific weapon or armour, that might be pretty cool

I say yes. It can add more reply value and make you feel as if you're a specific race than just any random generic person.

Actually there was at least one quest in Morrowind that you could not do if you were a beast race. There were a few that were limited to gender, iirc.

It would be interesting to see what the devs could come up with; what could a Khajiit manage to do that a Nord or Dunmer couldn't? Or the other way around.

It would be a question of quality versus flavor. It's a fair enough question, but only when asked fully.Much like the one I posed. 10 quests any race could do, or 1 quest per race of your character. I suspect that 95% would take the former, as from my ecperience most TEs players only play 2 races, 3 at max.

Definitely NO!!

Too much wasted time in quest development that could go into making more overall quests.

I'd like to see more race related equipment such as armor or clothing but definitely not quests.

Vendur, that may be your opinion on what a game forum poll should be, doesn't make someone else's poll wrongbadfun. "Game forum =/= srs bsnss.

If you have nothing to say but that you don't like the idea of the poll, then go find a thread or poll that meets your exacting criteria, instead of going off topic.
